Speaking at a press conference ahead of Sunday’s 2026 World Cup final against Spain in New Jersey, Scaloni praised Messi’s contributions and said his achievements should be properly appreciated.<\/p>\n
“At the age of 39, Messi has led the team to the World Cup final. We need to evaluate what he’s doing. He is a living legend of football. This team has given us an unforgettable year,” Scaloni said. <\/p>\n
Scaloni said Messi’s leadership was an inspiration for Argentina, who are chasing a second successive World Cup title, and said the team needs to be at its best to win the final. He said that Argentina had studied Spain as well as every game and that the team had reached the final on the basis of its own ability.<\/p>\n
“We’re preparing for every game. We analysed the opposition and we have to play our best game to win. Everyone knows our team, so to reach the final is even more of an achievement.” <\/p>\n
According to Scaloni, all the players are fit before the final and the final training session will be crucial.<\/p>\n
“Argentina and Spain are both ball-control teams and the final will be very competitive,” he said. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez said his focus was on winning the World Cup.<\/p>\n
He said that this year’s World Cup was more enjoyable than the previous edition and expressed his gratitude to his family, teammates and Argentina supporters. <\/p>\n
‘My only focus is to win the World Cup. Sometimes I get emotional when I think about what I have achieved with this team. I’m going to be on the field with a smile on Sunday,” Martinez said. <\/p>\n
