KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) has achieved a new milestone in the health sector by successfully treating a complex nerve without incision using the orbital atherectomy technique, for the first time in Nepal. This cutting-edge technology has opened the door to new hope for patients who are at risk of losing limb due to complete blockage of the veins in the leg. 71-year-old Hiramaya Ramjali of Pokhara had been in unbearable pain for a long time due to the tightening of the veins in her leg. His legs were blue, the wound did not heal and he had severe cold.\u00a0Dr. Madhuri Dixit of the Department of Heart, Chest and Blood Vessel Surgery (CTVS) at KMC. A medical team led by Dr Krishna Basyal successfully treated him. The treatment team consists of General Surgeon Dr. Dr. Manish Acharya, anesthesiologist Dr Smriti Koirala, General Surgeon Lokesh Acharya and other doctors and health workers were present on the occasion. <\/p>\n
The main problem of the patient was the blockage caused by the strong calcium accumulated in the blood vessels. According to doctors, although the veins were repaired through open surgery in the first stage, it was not possible to remove the severe obstruction in the lower part with the usual method. After this, the medical team decided to use ‘Orbital Endovascular Atherectomy’. <\/p>\n
This technology is a sophisticated device that penetrates the vein.<\/p>\n
Entering a vein through a wire, it converts the hard calcium into fine particles and opens the way for the blood flow to resume. There is no need to make a big difference in this process. <\/p>\n
After the successful treatment, Hiramaya’s grandson said, “After years of unbearable pain, I feel like my grandmother has got a second life.”<\/p>\n

KMC has also successfully treated 47-year-old Kalyan Lal Karna of Janakpur with the same technology.
