For them, football is not just a game, but a way to boost their morale and maintain their self-esteem in the midst of destruction. Saif Bilal, 20, practices every day with his teammates among the ruined buildings of Gaza City.<\/p>\n
Bilal, a football fan since childhood, became a professional player at the age of 15 and was considered a talented player with the potential to break into the Palestinian national team. <\/p>\n
But on March 5, 2024, while fleeing an attack in Gaza, an Israeli bullet hit him in the left leg.<\/p>\n
Attempts were made to save his leg with treatment, plaster and steel plates in various hospitals, but eventually doctors were forced to amputate his leg. <\/p>\n
“At that moment, I felt like all my dreams were shattered,” Bilal says.<\/p>\n
It wasn’t just about football, my future was bleak. The goal I was fighting for all ended at once. Bilal’s ordeal is just one example of the larger humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to a report released by the World Health Organization in October, about 42,000 people have been seriously injured due to the conflict in Gaza, with more than 5,000 losing their arms or legs. <\/p>\n

Despite these difficulties, Bilal has not missed a single training session so far.<\/p>\n
His continued efforts have earned him a place in the Palestinian national amputee football team, where he will represent his country in international competitions. <\/p>\n
“To be honest, they’re the ones who surprise me the most,” coach Hatim Al-Maghrabi said.<\/p>\n
Both my hands and feet are healthy.
