. KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) former President Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that it was the historic responsibility of the Nepali Congress to protect democratic norms, freedom of expression and political rights.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Issuing a press release on the occasion of BP Koirala’s memorial day, PM Oli said the path of nationality, democracy, socialism, reconciliation and people’s supremacy is the main guiding principle of Nepal’s political journey even today.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
“His unwavering belief in nationalism, democracy and socialism as well as reconciliation and people’s supremacy remain the guiding principle of our political journey even today,” he said.<\/p>\n
Stating that it was the greatest privilege of his life to start his political career under the leadership of BP Koirala, he said that democratic culture, responsibility and belief had given direction to his entire political life.”In his political journey spanning over six decades, he has never wavered in his stand for democracy, constitutionalism and people’s rights despite being jailed, banned, oppressed and in difficult circumstances,” he said. <\/p>\n
He said, “In my journey from an ordinary cadre of the Nepali Congress to the party leadership for more than six decades, I got the opportunity to struggle against all kinds of autocracy, authoritarianism and anti-democratic forces.<\/p>\n
Despite imprisonment, bans, political repression and many other difficult circumstances, my stand for democracy, constitutionalism and people’s rights has never changed. Because I have always believed that there is no alternative greater than democracy, and there is no power greater than the rights of the people. “<\/p>\n
He has expressed his best wishes to all Nepalis by paying respect to the memory of BP. “The path shown by BP in favour of democratic values, national unity and people’s supremacy are still relevant and inspiring,” he said. <\/p>\n
Stating that although he is abroad with his family in course of health treatment, his attention is continuously focused on the country, people and democracy, Deuba expressed serious concern over the recent political developments in Nepal.<\/p>\n
