The movie ‘Gaunthali’, which was released across the country from July 1, has received an encouraging response in the first weekend of its release. Most of the halls have increased the number of shows from the initial schedule due to the positive ‘word of mouth’ and the significant attendance of the audience.

The number of screenings has been increased since Saturday evening as the additional shows of the film were also full. Kapil Rijal explains.

But ‘Gaunthali’ is not just a movie, it is also a continuation of the fascination for art, literature and culture that has been flowing for generations for director Dr. Rijal.

Director Dr. According to Rijal, his attraction towards art and literature did not arise all of a sudden. His grandfather was a litterateur, his father was a senior physician. Bhola Rijal was active in literature, music and films, and had a creative environment at home, these things attracted him to acting and stories since childhood.

He remembers, “When we were kids, we used to play plays by making a curtain out of a bed. We used to buy tickets to my father and grandfather. Looking back now, it was their way of encouraging our talent. “

He continued to produce short films and music videos while studying medicine in school and college. Even though he was a dentist by profession, he never stopped creating.

Dr. The answer to the question of why health, education and social issues come up frequently in Rijal’s films is also found in his life experience.

According to him, because he grew up in the same environment, the stories are also born from there. “If I were a banker’s son, I would have told banking stories. We grew up in an environment of health and education. So those issues come to the center of our creation,” he says.

For them, health and education are the fundamental rights of every Nepali.

It is this belief that connects his stories to social sensibilities.

He says, “There is an issue in any film and a solution is found.

Health and education are important issues from the very beginning, we grew up in that environment. Now, if I were a banker’s son, I would probably tell banking stories. But we didn’t do that. In a country like Nepal, health and education are basic things. We can’t see it being deprived of anyone. We believe that every Nepali should have a birthright. Rijal, who had previously directed ‘Harry Ki Pyari’, chose a different path this time. He wanted to tell a Nepali story that connected emotionally with the audience, that would remain relevant even after the passage of time.

About

25 years ago, his father, Dr. Inspired by Bhola Rijal’s ‘Gaunthali’, a reinterpreted version was prepared with modern technology for the new generation.

According to him, the objective of the film is to establish Nepali language, culture, costumes, music and village life as a work that will survive the time through modern cinematic presentation.

Another feature of the film is its casting. According to the director, they needed an actor who could get lost in the character rather than a famous face.

This was also the reason for choosing Simran Pant in the lead role.

The intention was to get the audience to see the character of ‘Gaunthali’ and not the actress.

Similarly, actor Arun Chhetri has also been selected on the basis of his acting ability.

After being away from the screen for some time after ‘Mahapurush’, Arun has played a different role in this film.

Rijal, who previously directed ‘Harry Ki Pyari’, says that this time he has made ‘Gauthali’ with the aim of creating a deep emotional connection with the audience and telling a story related to Nepali soil and culture.

According to him, about 25 years ago, his father Dr. Inspired by Bhola Rijal’s ‘Gaunthali’, the film has been recreated with modern technology and new presentation for the present generation.

He says, “I thought, now let’s make a film that stands on Nepali soil, carries Nepaliness, which will still be relevant 25 years from now.”

Technically, let’s use the latest technology, but the idea came that the story and soul should remain Nepali. So, while searching for different stories, we came to the conclusion that why not make ‘Swallows’. We modified it in a way that is understood by today’s audience, to match the current times. Our aim is to make a timeless film with the essence of Nepali language, culture, costumes, music and Nepali soil. Another important issue at the heart of “

is society’s attitude towards people with different abilities.”

The director says that the team did a detailed study before introducing such a character in the film.

Some parents were consulted, the actors observed it firsthand and tried to present the character in a respectful manner.

The effect is still visible. After watching the movie, many parents have shared their experiences of children with autism and said that the film has presented them with respect.

Dr. According to Rijal, even though society views people with different abilities from a different perspective, they are more sincere. “They say what is on their heart, they laugh openly when they are happy, they don’t keep it in their hearts even when they are angry. That’s what we’re trying to portray on screen,” he says.

‘Gothli’ is not just a film with a social message. It covers many layers of love, struggle, child marriage, family relationships and self-acceptance.

According to Rijal, only one scene in the movie cannot be called the best.

The entire story, the acting of the characters, the cinematography and the music make up the overall experience.

When asked about the commercial success of the film, Rijal’s vision is clear.

For him, winning the hearts of the audience is more important than the box office.

“A lot of tickets are sold because a lot of people have seen the movie,” he says. But that doesn’t measure whether you like the movie or not. “

He gives examples of classic Nepali films, which are still valued not on the basis of earnings, but on the basis of artistic height.

‘Gaunthali’, which is being screened in about 200 screens all over Nepal, is now preparing for international release. The film will be screened in the United States from August 24, followed by the Middle East, the UK and Australia.

Targeting Nepalis living abroad, the director hopes that this film will not only make them feel the scene but also the fragrance of Nepaliness.

“We have made a film where Nepali culture, music, village, relationships and emotions are all alive. This is a movie that Nepalis can be proud of,” said director Kapil Rijal.

Similarly, senior artist Madan Krishna Shrestha said that the movie ‘Gauthali’ has given a strong message to change the society’s attitude towards girls’ education, child marriage and autism. Shrestha, who is seen in the role of a teacher in the movie, is directed and produced by Dr.

Stating that he has a close relationship with Kapil Rijal like his family, he said that he acted in the film at his request.

‘Dr. Our relationship with Kapil Rijal dates back to his father’s time. They have a very close relationship with their families. Thank you for the film,” he said.

He said that although his health condition may not be as active as before, his role as a teacher is meaningful.

Sharing his experience of teaching as a primary school principal at the age of 14 in real life, he said that it has helped him understand the character.

‘When I was in the ninth grade, I taught as a headmaster in a primary school. So I have my own experience with the character of a teacher,” he said.

The film accurately portrays the trend of girls marrying off at an early age in the rural society.

‘Many girls still do not have the opportunity to study in the village. The practice of getting married up to the eighth grade is still prevalent in many places. If you have a good house, it is fine, if you have a bad house, your daughter’s life can be ruined. The movie depicts this reality effectively,” Shrestha said.

According to him, the film has also sensitively raised the issue of how difficult it is for women to fulfill their studies, art and personal dreams after marriage.

‘Some people want to sing, some want to dance. But they may not get that opportunity after marriage. Therefore, the film gives the message that daughters should be educated and made self-reliant.

Shrestha said that another important aspect of the movie is the presentation of characters with autism.

He expressed the belief that the film will spread awareness about the fact that people with autism are still not understood properly in the society.

‘Many people don’t understand people with autism. Sometimes they have to endure abuse when they don’t understand or behave differently. ‘Ghothali’ has presented it in a very sensitive way,” he said.

He also praised the acting of lead actress Simran Khadka.

‘Simran has acted very naturally. His expression in the emotional scenes is very impressive. The acting of the character with autism is equally excellent,” he said.

According to Shrestha, ‘Gauthali’ is a movie related to Nepali society, culture and lifestyle, where there is a balanced presentation of education and social consciousness along with entertainment.

‘This is a pure Nepali story. The script, the dialogues, the visual combinations are all very balanced. It has become a must-see film for the audience. It is also entertaining and gives an opportunity to think about important issues of the society,” he said.

Stating that there is no need to make a separate request to the audience, he expressed the belief that the audience who have watched the movie will be the biggest promoters of the movie.

“The audience takes a good film to the next audience, I believe that ‘Gaunthali’ is also the kind of film,” he said.

Dr. Rijal ‘Gaunthali’ to make Madan Krishna ‘Master’ is stunned by the show Kathmandu.
