Theologian and former member of the Nepal Calendar Determination Development Committee, Prof. Dr. According to Dr. Devmani Bhattarai, this day is called Harishayani Ekadashi as it is believed that Lord Vishnu sleeps in Kshirsagar from Ashadh Shukla Ekadashi to Kartik Shukla Ekadashi. These four months of Vishnu’s sleepless period are also known as Chaturmasa. <\/p>\n
According to the Vedic tradition, there are 24 Ekadashi in a year. Devotees who cannot fast on all Ekadashi are required to fast on eight Ekadashi of Chaturmas. Those who are unable to fast regularly due to work fast fast on Harishayani and Haribodhani Ekadashi fast by eating fruits. <\/p>\n
On the occasion of Harishayani Ekadashi, devotees thronged Budhanilkantha, four Narayan temples in Kathmandu and Bishnu and Narayan temples across the country since early this morning.<\/p>\n
On the day of Ekadashi, there is a religious tradition of eating bread, dhindo and fruits without eating rice dishes. <\/p>\n
Tulsi is also considered as a plant full of medicinal properties along with religious significance. Scientific studies have shown that basil helps to purify the environment and increase the amount of oxygen. It is also believed that the air in the place where Tulsi is planted remains clean and the effect of various diseases and germs is reduced. Even in Vastu Shastra, Tulsi is considered a symbol of auspicious and positive energy. <\/p>\n
Tulsi is married to Lord Damodar according to Vedic rituals on the day of Kartik Shukla Ekadashi (Haribodhani Ekadashi). After the completion of Tulsi Vivah, there is a tradition of concluding the Chaturmas fast by performing fire and havan. <\/p>\n
