. According to Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Sunil Lamsal, the main objective of the tunnel way construction is to shorten road distance, reduce fuel consumption and make travel safe and easy. <\/p>\n
Talking to media persons after the inauguration ceremony of the Nagdhunga Tunnel Way on Monday, Minister Lamsal said the need for the construction of the tunnel way would be determined on the basis of distance of the road, viability and geographical risk. He said that the tunnel will reduce the journey and save fuel and transportation costs as long distance travel consumes more fuel.<\/p>\n
According to him, the tunnel will save time and make transportation more effective. <\/p>\n
Minister Lamsal said that the construction of a tunnel way would be appropriate if the distance was significantly reduced by the construction of a tunnel way along any road section and there was sufficient traffic pressure on that route.<\/p>\n
He said that such projects will be decided on the basis of ‘feasibility test’. <\/p>\n
Stating that tunnel way would be an effective alternative even in areas prone to high risk of landslides, he said the government was forwarding the construction of tunnel way by giving priority to such places in the upcoming plans.<\/p>\n
