. Secretary at the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, Gopal Prasad Sigdel, said the tunnel is a historic achievement for Nepal. <\/p>\n
He further said that the Nagdhunga-Sisnekhola tunnel way, which is the first tunnel way of Nepal, has ushered in a new era in the development of infrastructure of the country. Recalling that the Nagdhunga road section, which has been the western gateway to the Kathmandu Valley since the past, was known as the route with excessive traffic congestion and risky traffic, he said such situation has now come to an end. Secretary Sigdel expressed the belief that the tunnel way would not only make a road through the hills but would also reduce the travel time to a few minutes and save the passengers from the risk of winding roads and landslides. He said that this achievement is the result of the far-sighted plan of the Government of Nepal and the continuous support of the Government of Japan.<\/p>\n
Stating that the project would not have been possible without concessional financial assistance from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), he described the tunnel as the latest and important example of Nepal-Japan friendship. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Mr. Sigdel expressed gratitude to JICA President and Japanese Ambassador to Nepal and appreciated Japan’s continuous support for Nepal’s development. He recalled that Nepali and Japanese technicians and engineers worked together to complete the project despite the geographical complexities, the global COVID-19 pandemic, and the challenges of mountain topography. Appreciating the contribution of the construction companies, consultants and especially the Nepali and Japanese workers, Secretary Sigdel said that the tunnel construction was possible due to their hard work, patience and skills.”Through this project, Nepali technicians and workers have gained valuable experience in hilly tunnel construction,” he said, adding that the project will be useful in future construction of such infrastructure projects.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
