. KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress has urged the Pakistan government to mobilize all possible resources for the rescue and search for world famous Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja (NIMS), who has gone missing due to an avalanche at Broad Peak area of Pakistan. <\/p>\n
Issuing a press release on Friday, General Secretary Pradip Poudel said, “The party is deeply concerned and saddened by the news that Purja, who has been successful in establishing Nepal’s pride in the world mountaineering world to an unprecedented height, is out of contact.”Purja had set a world record by climbing all the 14 mountains above 8,000 meters in just six months and six days,” the statement said, adding that the Nepali team under his leadership had added a golden chapter in Nepal’s mountaineering history by successfully climbing the first successful winter ascent of the world’s second highest mountain K2.<\/p>\n
The statement states that Purja has made a significant contribution to establishing Nepal’s mountaineering tradition, the potential of Nepali mountaineers and national pride in the world through the book Dyavathayalam Aykkadvi published by Purja and the Netflix documentary 14 Ave.: Lyatjaskallan Kshakshakdvi. “As a businessman, rescue worker and social campaigner, his contribution to tourism promotion, upliftment of Himalayan communities, environment conservation and humanitarian service is also commendable,” reads the statement. <\/p>\n
“Nirmal Purja is not just the name of an individual but a powerful symbol of Nepal’s courage, self-confidence, indomitable willpower, discipline, leadership capacity and national pride,” the statement reads. The NC has also wished success to all the rescue teams deputed for the rescue and rescue of spare parts in this sensitive hour and urged the Government of Pakistan, concerned security agencies and international rescue agencies to make maximum mobilization of all available resources, means, technology and expert human resources to make the search and rescue work effective with high priority. Nepal has been urged to play an active role in the rescue efforts by maintaining high-level diplomatic coordination with the Government of Pakistan, Nepali Embassy and concerned international agencies.
