London. KATHMANDU: The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of world record holder Nepali mountaineer Nirmal ‘Nimsdai’ Purja while climbing the world’s 12th highest mountain ‘Broad Peak’ (8,051 meters) in the Karakoram mountain range of Pakistan. <\/p>\n
In a press release issued on Saturday, the association’s spokesperson Som Sapkota said Purja had set a world record by climbing all 14 mountains above 8,000 meters in just six months and six days.<\/p>\n
“Nirmal ‘Nimsdai’ Purja was a source of pride and inspiration not only of Nepal but also of Non-Resident Nepalese around the world. As a Non-Resident Nepali, he had proudly established the courage, capability and identity of Nepalis in the international arena in the world. “With his untimely demise, the Non-Resident Nepali Community has lost an extraordinary campaigner, inspirational personality and invaluable heritage that demonstrated the courage and capability of Nepalis on the world stage,” reads the statement.”His vision to make the impossible possible, indomitable courage, determination, dedication and contribution to the nation will remain immortal in the hearts and minds of Nepalis in Nepal and around the world,” reads the statement. <\/p>\n
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has paid heartfelt tribute to six Nepalis and four foreign climbers who lost their lives in the tragic incident along with Nirmal ‘Nimsdai’ Purja and wished for eternal peace to the departed souls.<\/p>\n
