.\u00a0KATHMANDU: Police have arrested five persons, including the leader of Karma Group, for their alleged involvement in the robbery of gold chains and valuable jewelry in Kathmandu Valley. <\/p>\n
Organizing a press meet on Sunday, the District Police Range, Kathmandu said that the ‘Karma Group’ with criminal background was active in the investigation of chain snatching (chain robbery) that took place in the Kathmandu Valley on different dates and times. According to the police, the group has been involved in robbery, especially targeting women and the elderly.<\/p>\n
According to the police, the victims were strangled, beaten and injured when they tried to retaliate. <\/p>\n
Based on the profiling and analysis of past hooliganism, theft and robbery, the police started identifying and searching for the members of the group. Police have arrested four persons from Banepa of Kavrepalanchowk on July 30 for their alleged involvement in chain robbery that took place in Koteshwor, New Baneshwor, Tokha and Banepa. Police had identified the mastermind of the gang as Karma Tamang, 34, of Melamchi Municipality-4 in Sindhupalchowk and currently living in Bouddha, Kathmandu. According to the police, Karma Tamang was arrested at 10:25 pm on July 3 from near the water tank of Gamcha in Budhanilkantha Municipality-13, Kathmandu. When the police team tried to take him under control, Tamang tried to attack the police using the khukuri he was carrying.<\/p>\n
Police fired two rounds in the air as a warning but tried to escape on a motorcycle and one round below the knee was fired, police said. <\/p>\n
The injured Tamang has been sent to the National Trauma Center for treatment.<\/p>\n
Police have confiscated a motorcycle, a khukuri, five different number plates and T-lock and master keys used in the theft of motorcycles from the incident site. <\/p>\n
According to the police, the Karma group has been stealing 220 cc Pulsar motorcycles and using them.<\/p>\n
According to police, the number plates of the stolen motorcycles were immediately changed and chains and jewelry were used for looting and after the incident, they were sold outside the Kathmandu Valley \u0964 <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
