On this historical and cultural basis, the debate on the reinstatement of Hindu state and monarchy seems to be intensifying once again.

Some believe that the restoration of Hindu state and monarchy requires the participation of all regions of the country.

In particular, it is argued that the active role of Madhes is very important. Madhesh is not only the granary of Nepal but also a very rich region from the religious, cultural and historical point of view. Janakpurdham, Gadhimai, Simraungadh, Parshuram area, various Shivalayas and shrines have established Madhes as the living center of Sanatan culture.

Most of the citizens of Madhesh are deeply connected to the Sanatan Hindu tradition.

Their daily life, rites, festivals, marriages, fasting, worship, belief in culture and family values have developed on the basis of Hindu civilization. Therefore, many people believe that the voice, sentiment and participation of Madhes are inherently important in any national debate on the concept of Hindu state.

The notion that Hindutva is not a limited identity of any one caste, language or region is also widely held. It is associated with the cultural, spiritual and civilisational spirit of millions of Hindus spread across the world. Hinduism is described by many as a philosophy that embraces truth, non-violence, compassion, tolerance, respect for family, reverence for nature, and universal values such as “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakamb”.

It is also believed that if Nepal is re-established as a Hindu nation, it can further strengthen the religious beliefs and cultural relations of Hindus around the world.

Pashupatinath, Janakpurdham, Muktinath, Lumbini cultural sites, Devghat, Barahachhetra, Doleshwor, Gorakhnath, Halesi, Manakamana, Pathibhara and other religious sites are likely to become more attractive pilgrimage sites for the global Hindu community.

The development of religious tourism can be a big opportunity for Nepal from the economic point of view as well.

If the necessary infrastructure, safe environment, well-managed transportation, international standard hotels, pilgrimage routes, religious information centers, cultural programs and modern management can be developed, the number of pilgrims coming from different countries of the world can increase significantly. It can contribute positively to hotel business, transportation, handicraft, agriculture, local production, small and cottage industries, employment and foreign exchange earnings.

Religious tourism is not limited to temple visits. It also promotes local culture, tradition, music, art, handicrafts, cuisine, folk culture and natural heritage. In this way, religious tourism has the potential to become a strong base of Nepal’s economy.

However, any constitutional or political change needs to be based on the democratic process, constitutional dialogue, peaceful debate and the rights and dignity of all citizens.

As Nepal is a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual, multi-cultural and multi-religious society, national unity, social harmony and mutual respect should always be given priority.

There may be different views on Hindu state or monarchy. Diverse opinions are natural in a democratic society. But the beautiful aspect of democracy is that all sides express their views through peaceful dialogue, tolerance and keeping national interest paramount.

Ultimately

, prosperity, stability and peace in Nepal is the common goal of all Nepalis. National unity, preservation of cultural heritage, religious tolerance, economic development, good governance and people’s participation are essential to reach this goal. It should be the common wish of all Nepalis that no matter what constitutional form the future of Nepal purifies, it should strengthen the respect, rights, prosperity and national pride of all citizens.

Dr. Rudranath Adhikari Nepal has been known as the center of Sanatan Hindu civilization, culture and spiritual tradition for thousands of years.
