The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to ensure the education, health and housing of the displaced children <\/strong><\/p>\n . KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has issued an interim order in the name of the government to ensure the education, health, housing and other fundamental rights of children displaced from the squatters on the banks of the river and other places. <\/p>\n A single bench of Justice Sapana Pradhan Malla issued the order on August 3 stating that the displacement has had a serious impact on the education of children. Tilottam Poudel, chairperson of Children as a Zone of Peace National Campaign, and Barun Basyal on behalf of Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) Bagmati Province Office, has come to the conclusion that school-age children in the landless areas may be deprived of education and the displacement will have an adverse impact on their life and development.<\/p>\n The court has ordered the identification and verification of the displaced children to continue the education of the children enrolled in the school and to make it compulsory and free of cost for those who have not been admitted to the nearby school by mid-July. Likewise, free textbooks, uniforms, educational materials, transport facility, psycho-social counseling and support services should be provided to children with disabilities. <\/p>\n The directive also calls for making arrangement of residential education if necessary, to build child-friendly environment by coordinating with the local levels and to ensure quality temporary housing and health services for pregnant women, people with disabilities, senior citizens, children and the sick. The writ petition has sought an interim order for protection of education, health and other fundamental rights of the children displaced from the squatters.<\/p>\n The SC issued the interim order stating that it was necessary to protect the constitutionally guaranteed education, the right to live with dignity and the right to housing. <\/p>\n According to the writ petitioner, the writ petition was filed on July 30, 2083.<\/p>\n Senior advocate Raju Prasad Chapagain and advocates Gaurav Baral and Hemanta Raj Pahari had argued on behalf of the petitioner. <\/p>\n Tilottam Poudel, president of Children as Zones of Peace National Campaign, expressed his confidence that the court’s verdict would make an important contribution to the protection of education, health and other fundamental rights of the displaced children.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The Supreme Court has issued an interim order to ensure the education, health and housing of the displaced children .
