. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stated that the passport service has become easy, systematic and citizen-friendly with the implementation of the new passport system.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The ministry has said that up to two thousand passport application slots have been opened daily and passport printing and distribution is taking place at the same rate. At a regular press briefing held at the Ministry on Friday, Spokesperson at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lok Bahadur Poudel Chhetri said that reform of passport service was one of the main priorities of the Ministry. According to him, the number of service seekers applying for passport has increased significantly with the implementation of the new system.<\/p>\n
To manage this pressure, the Department has been opening up to two thousand application forms daily and around the same number is printing and distributing passports. <\/p>\n
“In view of the increasing number of passport applicants, the Department of Passport has opened up to two thousand applications on a daily basis and the printing and distribution of passports is taking place at around the same number,” he said.<\/p>\n
If a person who is unable to apply for a specified slot on a daily basis but has to deal with a specific emergency such as medical emergency, urgent travel requirement, he or she can get a passport on the same day depending on the situation. In order to make the service delivery more systematic and citizen-friendly, the Department of Passport is providing the service in two shifts. “<\/p>\n
Spokesperson Chhetri said special arrangements have been made for the citizens who need passport in case of emergency. <\/p>\n
He said, “Arrangements have been made to provide passport on the same day if the service recipients who are unable to apply for the designated slot on a daily basis but have special reasons such as medical emergency or essential travel contact the department directly.”<\/p>\n
“The Department is currently operating the passport service in two shifts and since last week it has been operated on Saturdays and Sundays as well,” he said. The ministry believes that this will help manage the pressure of service seekers. <\/p>\n
According to spokesperson Chhetri, the passport application service is currently being operated from all 77 district administration offices, 13 area administration offices and 33 Nepali diplomatic missions abroad.<\/p>\n
He also informed that preparations have reached the final stage to make arrangements for biometric (enrollment) in 6 more Nepali missions at any time. <\/p>\n

25,000 passports have been printed through the new system so far, he said, adding that technical teams concerned were continuously working to resolve some technical problems seen in the initial phase. <\/p>\n
He said, “It is natural to see some technical problems as the system is currently in the stabilization phase.<\/p>\n
The concerned technical team is continuously working to solve these problems and efforts are on to make service delivery more smooth and citizen-friendly. Appreciating the role played by the media in disseminating correct information and public awareness regarding the passport service, the Ministry urged the citizens to cooperate in disseminating the correct information in the coming days as well. g. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
