. KATHMANDU: Nepal Association of Foreign Employment Agencies (NAFEA) has announced to stop the process of sending workers abroad for foreign employment, demanding policy reforms in the foreign employment sector. <\/p>\n
In a press conference organized on Friday, the association said that it would stop sending workers for foreign employment considering the current situation as ‘zero time’ until the government immediately addressed its 15-point demands.<\/p>\n
The association has pledged to fully comply with the law only after policy reform. <\/p>\n
On the occasion, Association President Dik Bahadur Khatri (Kumar) said that although the foreign employment sector has made significant contribution to Nepal’s economy, foreign exchange reserves, reduction of trade deficit and uplifting the living standard of millions of Nepali families, businessmen, workers and the nation have been affected due to policy complexities and impractical arrangements. The association has demanded withdrawal of action against the licensed companies while implementing the government’s decision in special circumstances, timely amendment to the Foreign Employment Act-2064, determination of transparent cost of workers and scientific service charge of entrepreneurs, reduction of airfare and easing of demand letter of new labour destination countries. Similarly, various European countries, South Korea’s E-7 visa, Japan’s ESD programme, expansion of labour market for women domestic workers, signing labour-friendly labour agreement, reforming complaint management system, automating demand letter certification and labour permit and ending syndicate of middlemen seen in foreign employment have been urged by the government. The association has also demanded expansion of the arrangement of labour attach\u00e9, imposition of criteria for the distribution of new licenses, provision of interest on the deposit amount to entrepreneurs, provision of collateral-free concessional loan to workers and implementation of cashless system. The association has urged the government to take immediate policy reforms to make the foreign employment business dignified, transparent and systematic while protecting the interests of the workers <\/p>\n
