Sabin Shrestha, executive director of FWLD, said that it would be timely to amend 22 more points in the Human Trafficking and Transportation (Control) First Amendment Bill, 2083 BS which is scheduled to be tabled in the House of Representatives on Friday. <\/p>\n
Sub-section (3), Section 2, Section 4, Section 5, Section 8 (a), Section 11, Section 12, Section 13, Section 14, Section 15, Section 17, Section 20(a), Section 22, Section 23, Section 23 (a) and Section 23 (b), Section 25, Section 26, Section 27, Section 27 (a), Section 27 (b),<\/p>\n
Suggestions were made to amend the provisions of Section 29 (A) after extensive discussion.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The lawmakers were advised to pay attention to the formulation of laws as the dimension of human trafficking and smuggling is changing.<\/p>\n

Recalling that the Human Trafficking and Transportation Act was formulated in 2064 BS by amending it in 2043 BS, Executive Director Shrestha said, “The amendment bill has come 20 years after the promulgation of that act.<\/p>\n
It is the need of the hour to amend it in line with the international law. Because human trafficking and smuggling is not limited to the country. “<\/p>\n
Nepal is a party to the Parlamoprotel, Nepal is not only a source country for human trafficking but also a destination country. Therefore, Executive Director Shrestha stressed that international treaties and agreements should also be taken into consideration in the amendment bill. <\/p>\n
Shedding light on the objectives of the discussion program, Binod Chandra Devkota of FWLD said that although the three tiers of government have their own Human Trafficking and Transportation Act, it is not clear about it.<\/p>\n

Human trafficking and smuggling are different activities. He said that some other things including the language used in the bill needed improvement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
On the occasion, lawmaker Prem Bahadur Baik narrated the incidents of human trafficking in Cambodia and Australia.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
He asked for suggestions on what provisions can be made in this bill to prevent such incidents from happening again. Lawmaker Sushila Dhakal Acharya sought suggestions on what could be done to provide legal aid to the victims who are abroad.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Lawmakers Bishnu Maya Pariyar, Sajda Siddiqui, Yashoda Baral, Pabitra Bishwakarma, Radhika Ramtel, Srijana Shrestha, Prabha Karki, Saraswati Lama and Khemraj Koirala discussed on the issues of human trafficking in Nepal.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
They said that children and women are more likely to suffer in the discussions. He stressed on the need to formulate laws to accommodate all as men are also victims in recent times. The FWLD had facilitated the lawmakers to understand what was in the Act, what was in the amendment bill, what could be better if added or removed.\u00a0<\/p>\n
They said that the discussion program between more than five dozen lawmakers was a milestone in reaching the depth of the ‘Human Trafficking and Trafficking (Control) First Amendment Bill’.<\/p>\n
