Mugu. MUGU \u2014 The hospital buildings that were being constructed at the local levels of Mugu district with an objective of providing accessible and quality health services to the people of remote areas have not been completed even after many years. <\/p>\n
Locals are still deprived of basic health services as the construction work is progressing at a snail’s pace.<\/p>\n
The then government led by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in 2020 had forwarded an ambitious plan to complete the construction of 5, 10 and 15-bed basic hospitals within two years. Similarly, the foundation stone was laid for the construction of 42 hospitals in 41 local levels of Karnali state. <\/p>\n
However, the under-construction 10-<\/p>\n
bed hospital buildings in Soru, Khatyad and Mugumakarmarong rural municipalities of Mugu district are yet to be fully constructed. The locals are disappointed with the delay in the construction. <\/p>\n
The 10-bed hospital under construction at Soru Rural Municipality-8, Tarpani, is estimated to cost Rs 111.6 million.<\/p>\n
Although the contract agreement was signed with ‘Sagoon Pera JV, Butwal’ to complete the project within two years, the construction has not been completed even after 6 years of the construction begin. So far, the physical progress of the hospital has reached around 85 percent. <\/p>\n

Bahadur Malla, a representative of the construction company, said that the construction works have been affected due to floods and landslides of 2079 BS, change in design and estimate by the Ministry of Health midway and difficulties in transportation of construction materials in mountainous region. According to him, only the work of laying marble and finishing of windows and doors is left now. The company has pledged to hand over the project to the local level after completing it by the next Dashain. <\/p>\n
The progress of the hospital under construction in Khatyad Rural Municipality is still weak. According to the local level, only 50 per cent of the construction work has been completed so far. Meanwhile, 95 percent of the construction work of the hospital at Mugumakarmarong Rural Municipality has been completed. <\/p>\n
Most of the people of Mugu are compelled to walk for hours to reach Gamgadhi even for general treatment or spend exorbitant expenses to go to Surkhet, Nepalgunj and Kathmandu.<\/p>\n
Locals have complained that they are still losing their lives due to lack of timely treatment. <\/p>\n
Locals Tara Chandra Chaulagain and Man Bahadur Budha have demanded the authorities concerned to complete the remaining construction work of the hospital building at the earliest and resume the service. The District Administration Office, Mugu has also expressed concern over the delay in the construction of the hospital.<\/p>\n
Chief District Officer Poshan Raj Bhandari informed that the company has been directed to complete the remaining work immediately. He said that efforts are being made to speed up the construction work in coordination with the local government and the bodies concerned. <\/p>\n
It is expected that the citizens of remote areas will get basic health services in their own villages if these hospitals are under construction at the local level.<\/p>\n
But the continued delay in construction has raised questions about the effectiveness of the government’s health infrastructure expansion programme \u0964 <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
