Jailed and handcuffed when asked for identification: Resham Chaudhary<\/strong><\/p>\n Kathmandu. Chairperson of the Nagarik Unmukti Party and former lawmaker Resham Chaudhary said that they had to go to jail, handcuffs and nails for demanding identity and rights. <\/p>\n Addressing a gathering organized to announce the Progressive Front in Kathmandu on Saturday, Chaudhary recalled that he was abroad due to the Tharuhat insurgency when the constitution was promulgated.<\/p>\n He also said that their rights have not been included in the constitution made by forcing them to go abroad.\u00a0<\/p>\n ‘This Resham Chaudhary was abroad due to the Tharuhat rebellion when the present constitution was being implemented in this country. Our rights are not written in the constitution where we are being chased away,” he said. <\/p>\n He said that he had to go to jail for demanding identity and was handcuffed and nailed during the protest. <\/p>\n ‘We asked for identification, and we got jail in return. We raised our fists, our hands were handcuffed. When we tried to move forcefully, the nail hit our feet,” Chaudhary said. <\/p>\n Chaudhary said that no one needs to teach them the experience of struggle.<\/p>\n He was of the view that a review should be made whether they could not make the achievements due to the contradictions within them despite fighting for their rights for a long time. <\/p>\n ‘No one has to tell anyone what the struggle is like. We have struggled so much and we are doing so much. But I wonder if the inconsistency within us is not what we have achieved?” he asked. <\/p>\n He stressed the need to maintain unity among different communities and identities.<\/p>\n Linking the diversity of dress and culture into unity, he said a common front was necessary for securing the rights. <\/p>\n “After shaking hands with Daura Suruwal, after falling in love with dhoti, after joining hands with Chaubandi, even if everything is not found, you will get a towel to wipe the sweat of hard work,” he said. <\/p>\n Stating that unity among all sides was necessary for the rights and achievements, Chaudhary said that unity of the Progressive Front was essential for the same.<\/p>\n ‘When the Progressive Front is being formed, many people wonder if this is an off-season instrument. A lot of people are jealous that I should be a part of it.
