. KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Pradeep Poudel has said that he was ready to step down from the post of General Secretary if unity was established in the party.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Speaking at the Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 26 Executive Committee felicitation program on Saturday, General Secretary Poudel said that no one can be above the party president as it is the organization. He said that the contribution of the senior leaders of the party is more than that of him and they should be respected.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘The president is an institution, so no one is above the organization. Some leaders are senior leaders themselves, so there is no reason not to be considered senior. Their contribution is more than mine. We are ready to put them above the president. If this party is united, I am ready to resign from the post of general secretary,” Poudel said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Commenting on the recent political situation, he said that the power is now in the hands of those who burnt down Singha Durbar. He was of the view that the tendency to come to power through agitation and violence would push the country towards further crisis. <\/p>\n
‘Today, the power is in the hands of those who burnt Singha Durbar. Burning now? A similar situation had already arisen from the Terai. No one has to put out the fire. We have been taught to set fire to the country,” he said. <\/p>\n
Poudel questioned who set fire in the past and questioned whether those who came to power through arson and violence are now in a position to control it. <\/p>\n
‘Who set fire yesterday, set it on fire and came to power. Can you extinguish it now, can you say anything to anyone?” he asked. <\/p>\n
Stating that the election was the only way to defeat extremism, he said although there was no arson in Singha Durbar, the election would be held and the people would punish the old political parties through the election.<\/p>\n
He said that the situation of the country is deteriorating and old mistakes should not be repeated in the name of change. <\/p>\n
General Secretary Poudel said the Nepali Congress has the largest number of members in the country and it is developing as a party connecting them through digital medium. According to him, the NC is now preparing to start the practice of primary elections within the party.<\/p>\n
He said that active members of the concerned ward can vote in the selection of the candidate for the post of ward chairman and voting can also be done through digital medium Explained. <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
