Nepal Youth Council founder and president Saroj Baniya sought policy priorities to connect youths with skills, employment and entrepreneurship.\u00a0<\/p>\n He said that technical and vocational skills should be prioritized from the school level to enhance the capacity of Nepali youths in the competitive global market.<\/p>\n According to him, Nepali youths can compete in the world market by providing necessary skills in information technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and other sectors. <\/p>\n Talking to Nepal News Bank, Baniya said that skills are the biggest need of the youth at present and stressed on the need to prepare the youths accordingly as the form of employment is changing with the development of technology.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n ‘In a competitive world, skill is the most important thing right now. If we can provide training to the youths by prioritizing technical skills within the skills, they can make a living by presenting their potential in a competitive way in the world market,” he said. <\/p>\n According to him, there are some policy and legal obstacles to utilize the technology and resources available in Nepal.<\/p>\n According to Baniya, the government should pay attention to create an environment where Nepali youths can sell their skills and products in the world market.\u00a0<\/p>\n According to Baniya, there is a need to remove the legal and policy obstacles seen in the way of youths working in Nepal and working in the international market, receiving international payments, using necessary online services and software, and exporting their products to the global market. He said that the government should link AI and information technology related skills with education from the school level.<\/p>\n \u00a0According to him, the youth entering the market after completing Plus Two or Secondary level education should be developed in such a way that they can earn at least some income. <\/p>\n In order to connect the youth to the global market, language and communication skills are also necessary along with technical skills.<\/p>\n He said that the government should provide necessary knowledge and training related to language, digital technology and international market to the youths aspiring to work in the global market. <\/p>\n He said that youths are not political tools but economic capital<\/p>\n and youths should be seen not only as tools to be used for political change but also as an important capital for the country’s economic development.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He stressed that the state should formulate long-term policies to connect youths with Nepal’s economy and daily development process.<\/p>\n He believed that mobilizing youths in production, entrepreneurship and employment generation would contribute significantly to the country’s economic development. <\/p>\n ‘Young people are an asset to us. We need to link this capital with Nepal’s economy. Youths should be taken forward as power to connect with daily development,” he said. <\/p>\n According to him, rather than the state alone solving all problems, the youth themselves should identify the problems they are facing and find solutions.<\/p>\n He stressed the need for collaboration among youths, government, private sector and other stakeholders and clear determination of responsibilities.\u00a0<\/p>\n Technology has made it easier for youths to study the market, potential income, employment generation capacity and policy challenges before starting any enterprise or project, he said.<\/p>\n “Youths should talk and collaborate with the government on the basis that if the state invests so much, we can create so many jobs, generate so much income and return so much tax to the state,” he said. <\/p>\n He said that the private sector should provide experience and guidance to the new generation of entrepreneurs .<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n According to him, the new generation will not have to repeat the mistakes of the past if the old and experienced entrepreneurs can inform the new entrepreneurs about the opportunities, challenges and weaknesses of the past. He said that new businesses can be created by connecting sectors such as agriculture, food industry, tourism and information technology with technology.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He said that the experienced entrepreneurs of the private sector should take initiative for necessary policy facilitation by providing guardianship to the youths.<\/p>\n ‘Business is a complex and challenging subject. So, experienced entrepreneurs should show the new youth the possibilities within the challenge,” he said. <\/p>\n He said that AI and digital technology can be used to create employment and income generation opportunities at the local level through the use of AI and digital technology.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He suggested that the local levels should provide skills to youths of their area to promote local tourism, culture, cuisine and religious places through AI, digital content creation, multimedia, podcast and social media. According to him, by providing digital skills to the local youths, local tourism and products can be taken to the national and international markets.<\/p>\n According to him, this will enable youths to earn income on the one hand and also boost the local economy on the other. <\/p>\n “If young people can be trained to use AI tools at the local level, then local tourism, food and cultural sites can be taken to the world market,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n He said that youths should learn various skills including writing, content creation, multimedia, programming, etc.<\/p>\n \u00a0He says that AI can make many tasks easier, but for its proper use, basic knowledge of the subject is necessary. <\/p>\n Complain that the policy on youth is centered on the city<\/p>\n Baniya says that the policy on youth is still urban-centric. According to him, the government’s policies and programmes have not been able to reach the youths of rural and remote areas effectively. <\/p>\n He stressed the need for the central and state governments to extend youth-related programmes to the village, locality and community levels by enhancing the capacity of local levels.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n ‘We can find that the policies that have been made are a little more urban-centric. “The youths’ policies and programmes formulated by the government should reach out to the villages of different wards of 753 municipalities and make them feel that this policy is for me,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n He said that if the local government could be provided with the necessary resources, skills and authority, the program could reach the youth of all communities. Commenting on the increase in youth representation at various levels of the state in recent period, Baniya said that youth representation should be transformed into policy achievement.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n According to him, the age group of 16 to 40 years accounts for 42.5 <\/p>\n 6 percent of the total population of Nepal. Such demographic dividend should be utilized as an opportunity for the country’s economic development. <\/p>\n He said that political representation of youths was not enough but it should be transformed into policies to create employment, entrepreneurship, education, skill development and economic opportunities.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He stressed on the need for the government to formulate youth-centric long-term policy at this time as the current demographic opportunities would not last forever.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He said that education should be made technology-friendly <\/p>\n education system needs to be improved for the capacity development of youths.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n He said that Nepal’<\/p>\n s education system should also be made technology-friendly at a time when the development of robotics, AI and other technologies is accelerating. <\/p>\n He said that skill development centers should be established for youths in every sector to link education and skills with entrepreneurship.<\/p>\n He suggested that the state should establish skill development centers with community and public access as all youths may not have the capacity to buy equipment, internet or necessary software. <\/p>\n According to him, if the youths are encouraged towards entrepreneurship after the skill development, employment opportunities will be created and the state’s income will also increase. Baniya said that it would be difficult to reduce the number of youths going for foreign employment until employment or certain income opportunities are ensured in the country.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/p>\n According to him, the youth are compelled to go abroad due to the lack of guarantee of employment in Nepal, but the income can be expected in foreign countries. He also stressed the need to create an environment conducive for Nepalis who are in foreign employment to return home and invest.<\/p>\n Nepalis who have earned skills and capital abroad can invest in agriculture, tourism, industry and other sectors within the country to create employment opportunities at local level, he added. <\/p>\n “If Nepalis living abroad can bring capital and provide employment to 20-25 people in the village, it will contribute a lot to the local economy,” he said.
