With the increasing adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) in Nepal, the mobility sector has emerged as a new potential for attracting foreign investment (FDI). <\/p>\n<p> The &#8216;<\/p>\n<p>NAIMA Nepal Mobility Expo 2026&#8242; has been widely debated on investment, technology transfer and development of green transportation system. <\/p>\n<p> More than <\/p>\n<p>29,000 visitors visited the first day of the expo organized by Nepal Automobiles Importers and Manufacturers Association (NAIMA) on Tuesday. Various brands have launched 48 new models of vehicles. According to the organizers, around one and a half lakh visitors are expected to visit the expo during the expo. <\/p>\n<p> Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, Ritu Singh Vaidya, President of NIMA, said that the mobility sector in Nepal is in a phase of rapid transformation and it should be understood not only as a market for vehicle sales, but also as one of investment, technology and job creation.<\/p>\n<p>Stating that the new investors are unsure due to policy instability, she underscored the need of a long-term and predictable policy. <\/p>\n<p> In a special discussion on &#8216;Investment and Foreign Direct Investment (FDI): Mobility-Fueled Economic Growth&#8217; held on the first day of the expo, the speakers said that the mobility sector in Nepal has prepared enough ground to attract foreign investment.<\/p>\n<p>They were of the view that the increase in hydropower generation, increasing demand for electric vehicles and expansion of charging infrastructure could attract the attention of international investors. <\/p>\n<p> Executive Director of Nepal Rastra Bank, Dr.<\/p>\n<p>Saying green economy and clean energy-based industries were among the priorities for global investment, Nepal could reap benefit from this. Mr. Manoj Gyawali, Chief Executive Officer of Nabil Bank said that the mobility sector should not only be seen as automobile business, but also as an integrated economic ecosystem involving energy, finance, infrastructure and technology. <\/p>\n<p> According to entrepreneurs, the growth in EV sales in Nepal is creating huge investment opportunities in areas such as charging network, battery management, spare parts production, assembly plant and technical manpower development.<\/p>\n<p>They believe that Nepal can become an attractive destination for green mobility investment in South Asia if policy stability is maintained. <\/p>\n<p> Anjan Shrestha, president of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), said that the automobile sector should not be seen only as a means of revenue collection but should be linked with industrial development and investment promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Chairman of Nepal Chamber of Commerce Kamalesh Agrawal said that the mobility sector contributes around 7 percent to the country&#8217;s GDP.
