National Assembly member Basudev Ghimire has demanded the government to make clear arrangements for relief and compensation to the owners of cattle who died due to the pandemic. <\/p>\n
Taking part in the discussion on the proposal seeking consideration on the Infectious Animal Disease (Control) Bill, 2083 BS in the National Assembly today, he said although the bill was positive, some practical and important aspects were left out.<\/p>\n

Referring to the fact that more than <\/p>\n
80 percent of the population in Nepal is dependent on livestock farming and it has been made the major source of income for the country, Ghimire said that strict and clear legal provisions are imperative for the security of this area. <\/p>\n
Although the bill has a provision to provide compensation for the destruction of diseased animals to prevent the spread of infection, there is no provision of relief in the case of animals that die on their own due to the pandemic, so it should be added.<\/p>\n

He also stressed on the need to include in the bill the policy bill to promote and refine the measures of ‘bio-security’ to prevent the disease rather than controlling it after the disease has occurred. He said that the bill should also provide clear guidelines on the control and testing of infectious diseases in fisheries and wild animals, in addition to terrestrial animals and birds. Lawmaker Ghimire said that serious discussion on the bill was necessary as the provisions related to animal disease control would have a direct impact on the livelihood of farmers and the overall economy of the country. He also drew the attention of the government through the Chair to take the bill to the Legislation Management Committee for clause-wise discussion in order to make the bill more refined, practical and acceptable to all.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
