Kathmandu. A meeting of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee held discussions on the status of use of organic and organic fertilizers, soil health and its potential for sustainable agricultural development. <\/p>\n
The meeting stressed the need to adopt policies to gradually reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and increase the use of organic and organic fertilizers. Committee Chairman Ashok Kumar Chaudhary stressed on the need of a policy to attract farmers towards the use of organic and organic fertilizers by gradually eliminating the use of chemical fertilizers. He said that the suggestions received in the committee meeting should be taken as guidelines while formulating necessary policies for sustainable agricultural development.<\/p>\n

“The issue of gradually eliminating the use of chemical fertilizers and adopting a policy to attract farmers towards the use of organic and organic fertilizers was raised in today’s discussion,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
President Chaudhary said that all the members of the committee were of the same view that the agriculture system should move towards organic and organic production.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
“All the honorable members have agreed that the way forward should be organic and organic,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to him, the government has not yet allocated a separate budget for organic fertilizers.<\/p>\n
In the fiscal year 2083\u00f784, a budget of Rs 360 million has been allocated as conditional grant to the local levels for the promotion of organic farming. <\/p>\n
Chaudhary said that although the budget has encouraged the companies, industries and stakeholders related to organic fertilizer to some extent, it alone will not be enough. In the meeting, senior soil scientist of the Directorate of Agricultural Research, Lumle, Kaski, Roshan Babu Ojha also stressed on the need of improvement in the existing subsidy and distribution system centered on chemical fertilizers.<\/p>\n

Stating that the current provision related to control and distribution of chemical fertilizers has given more priority to chemical fertilizers, he expressed the view that organic fertilizers should also be included in the grant system.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
‘Our current chemical fertilizer control order focuses specifically on chemicals. Chemical subsidies and distribution of chemicals are becoming more oriented,” Ojha said. <\/p>\n
He said that the subsidy distribution system should be improved to increase the use of organic fertilizers by reducing the use of chemical fertilizers.<\/p>\n
He said that it would be effective if arrangements could be made to distribute organic fertilizer in certain quantities along with chemical fertilizers. <\/p>\n
“Our research has also shown that if we can make it a little routine and bring a mechanism of compulsory distribution of organic fertilizer in our subsidy system, it will work very well,” he said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Stating that international practice has also shown that the use of organic fertilizers should be increased in the agricultural system, Ojha said that such arrangement is necessary for the present agricultural system of Nepal.<\/p>\n
\u00a0<\/p>\n
The participants of the meeting stressed on the need to promote the production and use of organic and organic fertilizers to protect soil health, make agricultural production sustainable in the long term and reduce dependence on chemical fertilizers.<\/p>\n
Committee President Chaudhary said that the suggestions raised in the meeting would be utilized in course of formulating policies and programmes \u0964 <\/p>\n<\/p>\n
