Kathmandu. The Indian Embassy in Nepal has made public the process to be followed for the identification of the bodies of Indian nationals who died in the floods on August 26. <\/p>\n
The Embassy has asked the relatives of the deceased to provide photos or DNA profiles to facilitate the process of identifying the bodies. <\/p>\n
According to the Indian Embassy, the relatives of the deceased can identify the dead bodies on the basis of photos and details posted on the Nepal Police website. After the body is identified, the embassy will coordinate with the local authorities and facilitate the process of taking the dead body to India. “According to the Government of Nepal, the following procedures are required for the transfer of dead body of a foreign national: preparation of dead body documents, recording of photos and details of the dead body, post-mortem examination, confirmation of the cause of death, formal identification, collection of fingerprints, DNA, forensic samples, attestation of passport or identity card of the deceased, completion of embassy\u00f7consular coordination and preparation of release memo and receipt of the body.” “<\/p>\n
If the relatives and family members are able to identify the dead body on the basis of the photos and details posted on the website of the Nepal Police, the Embassy of India in Kathmandu will coordinate with the local authorities to assist in the process of handing over the body and sending it to India. <\/p>\n
The government of Nepal has temporarily buried a large number of dead bodies to prevent health risks. To identify such bodies, DNA matching has to be done with the first rank relatives of the deceased. <\/p>\n
If the body is temporarily buried, the relatives can send a DNA profile or blood sample for DNA matching. <\/p>\n
According to the Embassy, the Government of Nepal will arrange for DNA matching in case the body is not identified or the body is buried temporarily. The authorities of Nepal are collecting DNA samples from the bodies and preparing their DNA profiles. <\/p>\n
For DNA matching, first-level relatives of the deceased may send their DNA profile via email or provide a blood sample with preliminary details requested by the Nepali authorities. <\/p>\n
If facilitation is required through the Indian Embassy, a copy of the DNA profile of the first level of the relatives can also be sent. <\/p>\n

So far, 939 people have lost their lives due to the devastating floods in Rasuwa on August <\/p>\n
26. So far, 279 dead bodies have been recovered from Chitwan, 216 from Nawalparasi East, 168 from Nawalparasi West, 65 from Gorkha, 55 from Dhading, 38 from Tanahun and 23 from Rasuwa. <\/p>\n
According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA), 3,925 people are still missing. Of the missing, 592 are foreign nationals. <\/p>\n
So far, 11,379 people have been rescued. According to the information given by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Monday, 158 Indian nationals have been rescued from Nepal so far. ANI<\/p>\n
