Nepali youth Atal Dev Dhakal becomes South Asia’s first Glocal Teen Hero<\/strong><\/p>\n
Kathmandu. Nepal’s young climate activist and environmentalist Atal Dev Dhakal has become the first regional winner of the Glocal Teen Hero South Asia 2026 presented by the Golchha Group.<\/p>\n Dhakal was awarded the regional title in the grand finale between the national champions of Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Bangladesh at The Plaza in Lalitpur on Tuesday. According to the organizers, Dhakal was declared the winner on the basis of his contribution in the field of climate action, environmental justice and youth leadership. <\/p>\n He leads the Mountain and Glacier Working Group on Climate Finance, Protecting Vulnerable Ecosystems, and campaigning for the representation of marginalized youth in international climate decision-making. <\/p>\n Dhakal is expanding his youth network with the goal of connecting the voices of 100,000 young people to the climate movement ahead of COP31. His climate policy blueprint, regional climate ambassador initiatives and campaign tools are helping to connect youth and university-level environmental clubs to global climate governance, according to the organizers. <\/p>\n Mr. Birat Singh Thakuri, Corporate Manager of Glocal Pvt. Ltd. said that Glocal has been a proactive change-maker solving the problems of teenagers in South Asia.<\/p>\n “Every year, we see teenagers across South Asia go from passive bystanders to active changemakers solving real problems in their own communities. This evening is a celebration of that change,” he said. <\/p>\n Seema Golchha, on behalf of Golchha Group, said that investing in the potential of the youth is essential for building a sustainable and prosperous South Asia. “These youths are not only the leaders of tomorrow, they are leading from today,” she said. Representatives of various South Asian diplomatic missions in Nepal also participated in the grand final.
