Tourism revival after Bhotekoshi floods is challenging, from hotels to footpaths affected <\/strong><\/p>\n
Kathmandu. The revival of tourism in the affected areas has become challenging after the floods caused huge damage to tourism infrastructure in Sindhupalchowk, Rasuwa and other areas. The government has to pay special attention to rehabilitation and reconstruction to restore the tourism business to normal after the floods damaged hotels, vehicles, heritages and major tourist trekking routes.<\/p>\n Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Khadak Raj Poudel ‘Ganesh’ said that 142 hotels, 57 small hotels and 141 vehicles related to tourism business have been damaged in the floods. He also said that 27 heritages have been damaged and trekking routes including Langtang and Gosaikunda have been affected. According to Minister Poudel, the exact details of the damage will be ascertained only after further study as the data received so far is preliminary. “The data received so far is fluctuating and the exact data will be available in the end. But we all have felt the depth of pain and suffering,” he said. <\/p>\n The damage caused to the tourism infrastructure by the floods will not only affect the tourism activities but also affect the employment and income dependent on tourism at the local level. Hotels, transport, trekking and local businesses are directly related to tourism, so it will be difficult for businesses to return to normal until the infrastructure is restored. <\/p>\n The damage to the trekking route leading to important tourist destinations like Langtang and Gosaikunda has increased the risk of affecting the tourist movement in the upcoming tourist season. If the trekking route and other tourism infrastructure are not reconstructed immediately, the tourism business in the affected area may have to lose income for a long time. <\/p>\n The government, on the other hand, has given first priority to rescue and relief.<\/p>\n Minister Poudel said that coordination was underway with various line ministries to address the situation after the floods and rescue and relief operations were being carried out especially in coordination with the Home Ministry. <\/p>\n Now, after the rescue and relief, the detailed damage assessment of the affected tourism infrastructure, determination of the cost of reconstruction and providing necessary support to the entrepreneurs will become important.
