Kathmandu. Coordinator of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has accused the government of failing to rescue and mobilize people during the disaster. Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Prachanda said that he was confident that the government would take good initiatives after seeing the activism of the Prime Minister and Home Minister on the day of the floods. However, he said that the government’s performance has been sluggish in the recent days. <\/p>\n
He said, “We were with the government in this hour of crisis, and we are with them. I had seen the activism of the Prime Minister and the Home Minister on the day of the floods. After seeing that, I had said that they are very active and I am confident that good initiatives will be taken. \u2019<\/p>\n
Prachanda said although the Nepal Army has played an important role in rescue and relief operations by taking risk, it has not been able to mobilize all levels of government and the general public to deal with the disaster. <\/p>\n
He said, “The work done by the army was also seen. The army played a role in rescue and relief by taking a lot of risks. But the way all levels of government and the general public should have been mobilized to deal with this catastrophe, it did not happen. The army was mobilized, but the people were not mobilized. If the mobilization of the army is not connected with the mobilization of the people, then it will be difficult to solve this problem. \u2019<\/p>\n
Stating that there was a difference in the government’s initial activism and working style in the recent days, Prachanda said there was widespread dissatisfaction at the public level over the rescue work. <\/p>\n
“There was a difference between the promptness of the government in the first day and its working style in the last days. Most of the complaints are heard that the government has failed in the rescue operation. It cannot be hidden and lied. The government has failed in rescue and mass mobilization,” he said. <\/p>\n
He said that there was a delay in the immediate initiatives for rescue especially and the government showed a ‘can do everything’ attitude in the first two days. <\/p>\n
He stressed the need for the political parties and leaders to develop a culture where they can call each other’s good works good. <\/p>\n
He said, “We politicians are losing the courage, status and culture that we can usually call the good work done by others good. There is a thirst to propagate that the bad we have done is also good. \u2019<\/p>\n
He said that the disaster in Bhotekoshi has further confirmed the risk that Nepal is facing due to climate change. He said that the attention of the international community should be drawn by raising the issue of ‘climate justice’ in the international forum. <\/p>\n
“In my view, the horrific catastrophe in Bhotekoshi has proved well the research done yesterday, the conclusions of the scientists and the appeals I made in international forums. The issue of climate justice should be raised in all the international forums and if the international community is not drawn to the attention of the international community and help is not brought here, then Nepal cannot face this crisis alone,” Prachanda said. <\/p>\n
He also expressed his displeasure over the Prime Minister’s visit to the House of Representatives and returned without holding talks with the lawmakers. <\/p>\n
“The Prime Minister comes, he goes in the House without even looking at anyone’s face. What is this way? It is not like this. The Prime Minister is the Prime Minister of all of us. We have all said that we will help you, but what is the way to not see anyone’s face?
