Kathmandu. Occidental Public School in Anamnagar, Kathmandu has provided Rs 2.51 lakh for the rescue, relief and rehabilitation of the people affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River. <\/p>\n
Tek Bahadur Poudel, principal of the school, said that the amount has been deposited in the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund. He said that the amount was collected with the collective participation of the teachers, staff and Samagra Vidyalaya with the objective of supporting the families affected by the floods during the disaster. According to Principal Poudel, the school has been providing support by fulfilling its social responsibility at a time when the life of the citizens has been affected due to natural disasters. <\/p>\n
The school has handed over the amount to the rescue fund with the hope of helping to provide immediate relief to the people in distress. <\/p>\n
DB Niraula, director of the school, said that it is a humanitarian responsibility to help during the time of disaster. Stating that many families have lost their relatives due to the floods and have suffered huge losses to their homes, businesses and other physical infrastructure, he said that the cooperation of the private sector, educational institutions, organizations and the general public is necessary along with the efforts of the state.<\/p>\n
According to him, the support amount has been collected through the collective spirit and participation of the teachers, staff and other members working in the school. The school believes that even if there is a small contribution individually, a significant amount can be collected through the collective efforts of all and it will help in providing relief to the families affected by the disaster. <\/p>\n

Poudyal, manager and information chief of the school, said that helping the victims during a disaster is an important part of the social responsibility of the school. <\/p>\n
Stating that the role of the school was not only limited to imparting text-based knowledge and educational skills to the students, he said that it was also the important responsibility of the school to develop human sensitivity, social responsibility and cooperation among the students. “Continuous cooperation among the state bodies, private sector, social organisations, schools and civil society is essential to restore normalcy to the people affected by the disaster,” he said. <\/p>\n
The support provided by the school is believed to contribute to the immediate relief and rescue efforts. <\/p>\n
The school believes that such support will strengthen the spirit of social cohesion and cooperation during disasters. According to the school, collective efforts are necessary in home stay, education, health, employment and infrastructure reconstruction along with immediate relief as the rehabilitation of the flood-affected families is a long-term process. Occidental Public School said it took the support as a social responsibility and solidarity with the people in distress. <\/p>\n
