Kathmandu. <\/span> Serious negligence has been found in the relief materials collected for distribution to the flood victims of Bhotekoshi. During the inspection, it was found that the expired and unfit food items were kept ready for distribution. <\/p>\n

This fact came to light during a joint inspection team of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control and the Food Technology and Quality Control Division Office Kathmandu conducted a surprise inspection at five different places in the capital. The monitoring carried out under the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081 found expired materials in storage places ranging from government agencies to police training centers. <\/p>\n

During the inspection, deficiencies were found in the relief materials stored at the Urban Development and Building Construction Department at Babarmahal, the Police Training Centre at Samakhusi and the Radha Soami Satsang, according to the department. The expired materials were kept ready for distribution along with other food items at these places where relief was being collected and packaged. <\/p>\n

Among the items allocated for relief packing at the department in Babarmahal, ‘Current Chips’ of Yashoda Foods Pvt Ltd of Rupandehi and ‘Bhuja’ of Giridhari Food Products of Butwal have been found to be expired. The monitoring team has banned the distribution of 30 chips and 21 sacks of bhuja and kept them in a separate ‘expired zone’. <\/p>\n

Similarly, two packets (18 pieces) of chocofun and one packet of 5 kg of pill flour were found in expired condition at the Police Training Center in Samakhusi. The department has directed to keep the 59 packets of ‘All in One’ dalmoth at the same place in the expired zone without allowing them to be distributed. <\/p>\n

According to the Department, a 25-kg sack of ‘Jayashree Usina rice’ weighing 25 kilograms was found in expiry condition during the monitoring at Radha Swami Satsang of Samakhusi. <\/p>\n

According to the Department, the process of taking action against the culprits has been initiated as the use of expired food items for sensitive works like relief may have a serious impact on the health of the people affected by the disaster.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
