Kathmandu. Families and relatives of those who went missing in the camp of Trishuli-3 ‘B’ Hydropower in Nuwakot have staged a peaceful demonstration in Kathmandu, demanding to speed up the rescue work. <\/p>\n
Demonstrating at Maitighar in Kathmandu on Monday, they drew the attention of the government that the rescue and search operation in Trishuli-3 ‘B’ has not been able to move ahead effectively even after a long time since the floods. Suman Nayaju, who participated in the demonstration, said that they are present at Maitighar to further intensify the rescue work. <\/p>\n
He said, “We are here to make the rescue more strong and fast. The floods have affected many places and the geographical situation may have made it difficult to carry out the rescue. But the government should have taken the initiative to operate immediately if there are resources and where can it be made available even if it is not there.” He complained that there was a delay in mobilizing the available resources for the rescue from the beginning. <\/p>\n
Nayaju said, “The government did not allow the private sector to rescue itself till the sixth or seventh day even though it would help from all sides. It was only after the seventh day that the private company raised its hand saying that it could also rescue itself.”<\/p>\n
The work that had to be done from the first day was very late in the seventh or eighth day. Claiming that the rescue work in Trishuli-3 ‘B’ is very slow, he said, “Even today, all the buildings, houses and offices of Trishuli-3 ‘B’ have been buried. Not even five percent of the work has been done. Even after the floods on September 21-22, five percent of the work has not started. Now you evaluate for yourself.” When asked whether the government failed or not, he said that the government should focus immediately on the rescue of the disappeared people rather than blaming the government now. <\/p>\n
He said that the security agencies have carried out effective work in some places and even rescued them alive, adding that the available resources, technology and human resources should be utilized to the maximum. He also appealed to the government to move ahead by including the families of the disappeared in the rescue campaign. <\/p>\n
