The Lumbini Buddhist University has decided to take the responsibility of higher education of the students who have lost their homes and guardians due to the floods in Rasuwa.<strong><\/p>\n<p> The university has decided to give 100 percent tuition fee waiver to the students affected by the severe floods in Rasuwagadhi, Bhotekoshi river and lower banks on August 24. The university has given priority to reducing the impact of the disaster on the future of the students due to the disaster, going a step ahead from the traditional practice of providing relief money. <\/p>\n<p> According to the registrar of the university, Indra Prasad Kafle, the students studying in the university who are homeless or without guardians due to the floods will get this facility. Similarly, from the upcoming academic session 2083 to 2085, the flood-affected students who are newly admitted to the undergraduate and postgraduate level will also be given 100 percent discount on fees. <\/p>\n<p> In the case of new students, it should be proved that they have been affected on the basis of the recommendation of the concerned local level. <\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The university has decided to waive 100 per cent tuition fees to the students who have become homeless or guardianless due to the floods so that they do not have to be deprived of their studies due to financial constraints,&#8221; said Registrar Kafle, &#8220;This facility will be available to the current students as well as the affected students who will be admitted to the new admission in the next academic session.&#8221; &#8220;<\/p>\n<p> This decision of the university is expected to reduce the worry of the continuity of education of the children of the families who have lost their physical infrastructure and property due to the floods. The university has put forward the scholarship as a long-term means of relief at a time when there is a need to continue the education of the students of the affected families with relief, food and rehabilitation after the disaster. <\/p>\n<p> The university has also decided to deduct certain amount from the remuneration of its office-bearers, teachers and employees and deposit it in the Prime Minister Natural Disaster Relief Fund along with scholarships. According to the decision of the Executive Council, the salary of an employee without grade will be deducted for two days equal to the starting salary scale, five days for assistant level employees and seven days for teachers and employees of assistant professor, assistant director, assistant professor or equivalent. Similarly, 10 days&#8217; salary of associate professors, professors, campus heads, directors, controllers of examinations, deans and registrars will be deposited in the relief fund. The university has also stated that the salary equivalent to 15 days of the vice-chancellor will also be deposited in the Prime Minister&#8217;s Natural Disaster Relief Fund. Vice-Chancellor Dr. Manik Ratna Shakya said that the decision was made as a social responsibility to involve the university family in the sorrow of the victims during the time of disaster. <\/p>\n<p> &#8220;We are deeply saddened by the floods in Rasuwa that caused a huge loss of life and property,&#8221; he said, adding, &#8220;It is our social responsibility to contribute as much as possible on behalf of the university family in relief and rehabilitation by expressing solidarity with the families of the victims during the disaster.&#8221; &#8220;<\/p>\n<p> The university has put forward the financial assistance as a means of immediate relief and scholarship for long-term rehabilitation. According to the university, continuing higher education for students who lost their homes, property and guardians due to floods is an important part of post-disaster rehabilitation. <\/p>\n<p> Meanwhile, on the occasion of national mourning, a special religious ritual was also performed in the stupa premises of the university in memory of those who died in the floods. Bhikkhus, nuns and lamas recited the Sutra and lit lamps wishing the deceased to reside in the Sukhawati world. Information Officer and Assistant Director of the University, Churamani Pokharel, informed that the program was organized.
