Constituent Assembly member Pemba Gurung Bhote has claimed that the Gen-G movement that took place on September 7 and 24 last year has not changed the governance system of the country. <\/p>\n Expressing his views on the completion of one year of the agitation, he commented that giving a holiday as a festival forgetting the vandalism and arson that took place in the major administrative and judicial bodies of the state at that time was equivalent to promoting anarchic activities. Clarifying that the movement should be seen from two aspects, Gurung said that the agitation on September 7 was a justified warning of the younger generation against the then government’s ban on social media, lack of good governance and disregard for the people.<\/p>\n However, he believes that the destruction of historical documents by attacking sensitive state organs like Singha Durbar, Sheetal Niwas and the Supreme Court on the 24th has pushed the country towards anarchy. <\/p>\n According to him, even if the agitation of the 23rd is taken positively, the destruction of the 24th should be taken as such that the next generation should not learn. He said that this movement has taught a burning lesson to all the political parties, including the CPN-UML, that getting power is not paramount. <\/p>\n Despite the intelligence mechanism and administration of the state being in the hands, the leadership of the then government had to flee due to lack of public anger and preparations for the agitation, he warned that an alternative would be sought if the parties that changed the system could not deliver it. He also pointed out the need for the old parties to correct the shortcomings of the past and move ahead by integrating the younger generation in the executive post of the party. <\/p>\n Although the intention of the incumbent government, which got almost two-thirds majority from the March 4 election, is clear, it has failed in service delivery due to inexperience and tendency to walk in its own style. Stating that the slow rescue and relief work shown by the government in the management of floods and landslides and disasters in recent times has proved this, Bhote claimed that the operation of the state is possible only with cooperation and balance with the experienced generation and not only in the name of the youth. <\/p>\n Recalling the political vacuum that followed the Gen-G movement, he argued that the movement had pushed the constitution into a coma for some time.<\/p>\n Stating that the Sushila Karki-led government had to be formed in an unconstitutional manner without following any article of the constitution, he clarified that the constitution was back on track only after the March 4 election. He said that the movement which has not been able to change the system and the positive achievement of one day which has been reduced to zero due to the destruction of the next day cannot be described as victory or success. <\/p>\n He said that the government’s decision to fly the flag at half-mast and a condolence holiday today while paying tribute to the victims of the disaster should be taken positively, but the agitation holiday announced for tomorrow is an unnecessary burden on the citizens.
