Surkhet. Vehicular movement along the Karnali Highway has been affected due to landslides along with incessant rains. Passengers and goods vehicles have been facing problems due to landslides at various places from Aulinse of Surkhet to Gagnekhola of Kalikot to Jumla and Nagma-Gamgadhi road.<\/p>\n The Karnali Highway has been obstructed after a landslide occurred at Barahatal Rural Municipality-7 in Surkhet district, according to the Traffic Police. The traffic police have urged the passengers and drivers to use alternative routes as much as possible, saying the traffic could not be operated on the section due to the landslide. <\/p>\n Police have also requested people not to travel without understanding the condition of the road as there is a risk of more landslides from above the road due to rain. The Surkhet-Jumla road has been affected due to a landslide at Gaganekhola of Shubha Kalika Rural Municipality-1 along the Kalikot section of the Karnali Highway.<\/p>\n Vehicles heading to Jumla via Surkhet, Dailekh and Kalikot and Surkhet from Jumla have been stranded on the road due to landslide following incessant rainfall of late. <\/p>\n Police said that it was difficult to clear the landslide immediately even though the road division machine was near as the landslide was continuously falling. It has also been reported that some commuters had to face Khindkijyula and Dailekh due to the road blockage.<\/p>\n Gagnekhola is not a new problem. Landslides have been occurring frequently in the area due to rains. Earlier, the gabin wall built for the prevention of landslides has also been washed away by the landslide and the problem has been repeated on the road. <\/p>\n road in Jumla is also risky <\/p>\n There is a risk of landslides in various places along the Karnali Highway, including Gagne Khola of Kalikot. Although the Road Division Office, Jumla has kept the machines ready to clear the landslide, the incessant rain has affected the road reopening. <\/p>\n Jumla’s Chief District Officer Tej Prakash Prasain has also urged the people to travel only by looking at the condition of the road during the latest obstruction. Although the work of reopening the road is going on, the administration has said that it will be difficult to make the traffic smooth in all places due to the nature of the landslide and the weather. Landslides have occurred at three places on the Nagma-Gamgadhi road in Mugu while landslides have occurred at three places in Jhyarikhola and Talcha areas of the Nagma-Gamgadhi road. According to Bishnu Kumar Bham, mayor of Chhayanath Rara Municipality, the road operation has been affected due to landslides at three places. According to the information given by Mayor Bham, 10 nets are to be filled immediately in one place and landslide clearance work is going on in the remaining two places. He said that it may take two to four days to complete all the work and bring the road into operation.<\/p>\n The Nagma-Gamgadhi road is a road section that regularly faces the problem of landslides and mud during the rainy season. Earlier, the traffic was affected due to landslides in Koireli, Badki, Bistawada, Rokayawada and Gothijula, among other areas. <\/p>\n Vehicles heading to Surkhet and Nepalgunj from Jumla, Kalikot and Mugu have been affected due to simultaneous obstruction of the Karnali Highway. Vehicles heading to Humla and Bajura via Jumla, Mugu, Kalikot and Karnali corridor have also been affected due to landslides in Gagne rivulet of Kalikot district before this, police said. <\/p>\n Although the road division and local levels are working to clear the landslide, it is dangerous to operate the machine as the landslides with stones and mud are falling from above due to incessant rains. It has been reported that the work of removing the landslide has been started since this morning after the water stopped following the obstruction of the road at Gagane Khola of Kalikot. <\/p>\n Traffic police have urged people not to travel forcefully until the official information about the reopening of the road, to use alternative routes if possible and to inquire about the latest condition of the road from the concerned police office or road division before traveling. The problem of landslides on the Karnali Highway during the rainy season has been repeated every year. <\/p>\n Therefore, there is a need to immediately remove the landslide and operate the road as well as to control the landslide in the long term, improve the width of the road and permanently protect the risky places.
