Kathmandu. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam has said that during the Jenji movement, the youths took to the streets demanding good governance and not to change the government or take away anyone’s chair. <\/p>\n
Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of Jenji Martyrs Memorial Day, Minister Gautam said that the incident of September 7 should not be seen in the same way with the incident of September 24. <\/p>\n
She said, “I remembered this day i. e. exactly one year ago. When the then government leading the country was shutting down social media and making the people more and more difficult. At that time, a kind of anger was being created among the people. She said that at that time, they were questioning the government from inside the Parliament House and some friends were protesting from the streets. She said that as a people’s representative who was elected from the 2079 BS election and reached the Parliament, she was expressing her voice through the Parliament. <\/p>\n
Stating that she had seen the news of the agitation on September 7, Gautam said that the youths had made a clear request to make the agitation non-partisan.<\/p>\n
She recalled that they had urged the political parties not to give any colour to the agitation and not to insert their political agenda. <\/p>\n
Gautam also said that she believes that the Genji movement should be taken as a citizens’ movement. She said that she was of the opinion that she should leave the movement as a citizens’ movement instead of participating in the movement which was asked not to give the color of the party as a person who was elected from the party. <\/p>\n
She recalled that there were some sporadic protests in Nepal even before September 23. She said that the agitation in Tinkune on March 29 was also a movement raised by the citizens and people fell due to gunfire. <\/p>\n
“Just as the youths came out on the streets with the voice of good governance, no one thought that their children would lose their lives by going to the movement,” she said, “The young friends probably did not think that they would go to this movement and sacrifice their lives for the country. No one had imagined that they would die in this movement.” She said that the movement demanding good governance was not a movement that needed to die. She said that although there have been repeated movements in Nepal for political rights and democracy, the youths have come to the streets with confidence because of the belief that the citizens will be able to express their voice after the restoration of democracy. <\/p>\n
‘When the young friends were raising their voice in favor of good governance, the bullet was fired. That day I realised for the first time that there were gunshots in a democracy,” she said. <\/p>\n
On the occasion of the completion of one year of the Jenji movement, Gautam said that the state and society should support the martyr’s families and said that the thoughts and contributions of the martyrs will live on for a long time. <\/p>\n
‘A person is born, after being born, one day everyone has to leave the earth. It is only a matter of sooner or later. But those who became martyrs, became immortal. Not all people get that privilege of being immortal,” she said. <\/p>\n
She said that although different people have their own views and opinions about the incident after the Jenji movement, the events of September 23 and 24 should not be viewed with the same eye.<\/p>\n
According to him, on September 7, the youths took to the streets not to snatch anyone’s chair, but to convey their voice to the government and with the belief that the government would listen to their demands. <\/p>\n
“September 23 is the day when the trust of the people has been betrayed. Therefore, we should not look at the 23rd and the 24th with the same eyes. On the 23rd, our youths were killed, killed, shot,” she said. <\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
