Kathmandu. The production and distribution of Bagmati Sweets Pvt. Ltd. operating in Kathmandu Metropolitan City-11 has been banned. A joint monitoring team of the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control and the District Administration Office, Kathmandu took this step after finding serious negligence in the industry.
During the emergency inspection, serious problems were found in the cleanliness and quality of the sweet industry. According to the department, the insects were found in the peanuts kept ready for packing dry fruits during the monitoring. The team immediately confiscated around 5 kilograms of peanuts infested by the insects and destroyed them. The hygiene of food factories has been found to be very poor and unsatisfactory. Similarly, the management of pest control in the industry has not been effective.
The Department has ordered a complete halt on the production and distribution of goods from Bagmati Sweets factory in accordance with the Food Hygiene and Quality Act, 2081 BS until further notice. For further investigation, the team collected samples of the insect-infested peanuts and dry fruits mix and sent them to the laboratory. The spokesperson of the department, Dr. According to Bal Kumari Sharma, the industry has been directed to rectify the complaints and present it at the department within three days with evidence.
In the pictures released by the department, the kitchen and storage rooms of the factory are very dirty and the workers are not following the minimum health standards. The department has said that surveillance will be increased on such industries that play with the health of consumers.
