Kathmandu. Genji leader Miraj Dhungana has criticized the government over the management of squatters. Speaking at a press conference, he questioned the role of the Prime Minister.

He said that although the Prime Minister has promised to manage the landless squatters, its implementation is not clear. Those who protested against the use of bulldozers before the election raised questions about what is happening now.

“The Prime Minister has said that he will manage the landless squatters, but how will he manage them? Before the election, there were people who beat their chests when they attacked the bulldozer, but now they are beating their chests.

Claiming that around 50 lakh Nepalis are currently affected, the Prime Minister said that merely writing status on social media would not fulfill his responsibility. He urged the Prime Minister to be present in person and make his views public. He also questioned whether the Prime Minister’s statements were to be written by himself or prepared by someone else, pointing out the need for transparency.

He said, “Now 50 lakh Nepali people are going to be displaced. But can the Prime Minister only write the status? Is this a joke? Feel a little ashamed. Come and speak directly. After speaking, it is said that Balen ji has spoken. Even today, I write status on social media, who will write it now, are you yourself or not?”

He also urged the government to come up with a clear plan for the long-term management of landless squatters. Will the squatters get two meals a day? If so, how will they get it and whether those 50 lakh people will get a roof over their heads and jobs?” he asked. “How do you manage the squatters in the beginning? Stop using the dozer today. How much budget do you allocate? Where do you give the land? Or where do you keep the squatters? Does a pregnant woman get health care or not? Do you get health care or not? Will these children get an education or not? Can they eat two meals or not? If so, how will they get it and will those 50 lakh people get a roof over their heads and jobs?”

Stating that it was the responsibility of the state to solve the problems of landless squatters, he expressed the view that the bulldozer should not be used without necessary preparation and alternatives. “It’s all the responsibility of the state. If the dozer is to be used, then the government should not be allowed to use the bulldozer in the slum settlement without doing these things,” he said.
