Kathmandu. The government has spent Rs 1.153 trillion in the 10 months of the current fiscal year 2082/83. According to the Office of Financial Comptroller General (OFCG), the government has spent 58.75 per cent of the allocated Rs 1.964 trillion for the current fiscal year.
Out of the total budget, the government has spent Rs 809 billion out of the allocated Rs 1180 billion in the current fiscal year. This expenditure is 68.04 percent of the budget allocated under this head. According to the office, the highest amount of the allocated budget has been spent on the current heading. Current expenditure is the expenditure incurred for the day-to-day operations and regular functions of the government. These expenses do not create new wealth or provide long-term returns. Normally, it goes up to 58-62 percent of the total budget.
Likewise, the government has allocated Rs 407 billion for capital expenditure for the current fiscal year and spent Rs 109 billion. This expenditure is 26.87 percent of the budget allocated under this heading.
The government has not been able to spend much on the capital sector. Capital expenditure is spent on the construction of long-term infrastructure such as roads, bridges, school buildings, hospitals, irrigation, hydropower, etc. The budget has not been spent on such a heading. Contractors are facing shortages of bitumen fuel, especially due to tensions in the Middle East. The impact of which has been seen on capital expenditure.
Similarly, the government has allocated Rs 375 billion for financial management and has already spent Rs 240 billion. This expenditure is 64.16 percent of the budget allocated under this heading. According to the Financial Comptroller General’s Office, the budget allocated by the government for the management of public debt for this year has also been huge. The budget allocated under this title pays the principal and interest of the loans taken by the government earlier. The government’s income is also not encouraging. The government has collected Rs 970 billion against the target of collecting Rs 14.80 trillion.
