Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Bhumika Shrestha of the Rastriya Swatantra Party has said that the sexual and gender minority are still forced to live in the pain of discrimination and exclusion. In her maiden address to the House of Representatives on Tuesday, she said although the constitution has guaranteed the rights, it has not been implemented in practice.

“I come from a community where people are ostracized when they are born and humiliated even when they die,” she said. A decade after the promulgation of the constitution, the rights of sexual and gender minorities are still on paper. It is ironic that the necessary laws and laws for the implementation of these constitutional rights have not been made till date. ’

She said that she was still optimistic about the government and the parliament, adding that the agenda of the upcoming policies and programmes has prioritized empowerment of the community positively. Shrestha is a transgender lawmaker representing sexual and gender minority.
