In the meeting of the Hearing Committee held on Tuesday, he presented a detailed action plan with a list of works to be carried out after assuming the office of the Chief Justice.

Sharma presented his action plan to the committee with the goal of making the judiciary speedy, effective, transparent and technology-friendly. In his action plan, he stressed the need to create an environment where citizens can get justice on time by reducing the burden of increasing cases in the courts. For this, he has proposed to settle the cases registered in the court within a maximum of 18 months, ending the situation of prolonged pendency.

He has also proposed that important court hearings be broadcast live. According to him, the trust in the justice system could be further enhanced if the judiciary could be made more open and transparent to the citizens and an environment could be created where the citizens can directly observe the judicial process in the cases of public interest.

Clarifying the queries raised during the hearing, he clarified that he had not issued any order to stop the registration of any writ petition. He said that the full authority to register and file writs would be under the jurisdiction of the administration.

He said, “The administration is fully responsible and independent regarding the writ petition and filing of petitions.” The decision may have been taken by the administration using discretion. I would not like to comment further on this. ’

He also pledged to make the judicial appointment process more transparent and dispute-free, keeping in mind the disputes that have been arising since the past. According to him, he has prioritized determining the criteria, qualifications and objective basis for judicial appointments.
