Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) has strongly objected to Prime Minister Balen Shah’s remarks in the parliament on border, terming it as irresponsible and against diplomatic decorum. Issuing a press release on Sunday, NC Spokesperson Devraj Chalise said Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s remark in the House of Representatives that “we have encroached on border in many places” has weakened Nepal’s sovereignty, national integrity and established national standing.

“The constitutional map of Nepal, historical facts and national sentiment have been seriously hurt,” the statement said. “It is unfortunate that Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli’s statement weakened the issue of encroachment on Nepali territories including Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh and Kalapani,” reads the statement.

“Such statements have the risk of weakening Nepal’s claim and diplomatic credibility in the international forums,” reads the statement.

“The Prime Minister’s remarks ignoring established diplomatic mechanism to resolve the border issues between the two countries raises question over Nepal’s diplomatic maturity,” the statement reads.

The NC has also demanded clarification whether the Prime Minister’s statement in the parliament is the government’s official view or personal statement.
