Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Foreign Affairs Sishir Khanal has stressed the need to resolve outstanding border and border demarcation issues between Nepal and India through diplomatic dialogue. During his visit to India, he said Nepal was committed to further consolidating relations between the two countries on issues of mutual interest and stressed the need to take forward the issues of border and demarcation that remain to be resolved through open dialogue and established bilateral mechanisms.

“We want to build relations on issues of mutual interest. I admit that we have some issues. The remaining issues related to the border and demarcation can and should be resolved through diplomatic dialogue. ’

Stating that Nepal and India already have various mechanisms in place to resolve such issues, Khanal said that a joint field survey team of technical level is now working jointly in the border areas. He also said that during the discussion with the External Affairs Minister of India, it was agreed to reactivate all these mechanisms.

“We have agreed in yesterday’s discussion to activate all mechanisms so that existing problems can be resolved through openness and dialogue,” he said. Khanal’s remarks have been seen as an indication of Nepal taking forward Nepal-India relations in a new way on the basis of mutual trust, dialogue and cooperation. ANI
