Kathmandu. The Online Journalists’ Association has expressed serious concern after the Supreme Court ordered to remove the news published in ‘businessnews. com’. The Online Journalists’ Association has expressed serious concern over the Kathmandu District Court’s order to remove the news published by ‘businessnews. com’ and not to publish additional contents.
The association has said that the court’s order threatens to affect the very essence of press freedom and journalism.
Businessnews. com, operated by Business Ventures Media Pvt. Ltd., had published the news about ‘Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd’. Based on the petition filed on the same subject, the Kathmandu District Court has issued an interim order on June 7 and directed the government to immediately remove the related material from the online and not to publish or broadcast further information until the final decision of the case.
However, as per point 5 (8) of the Journalist Code of Conduct, 2073 BS, the content published online will not be removed as far as possible. The association believes that the court’s order interferes with this provision.
“It is against the norms and values of journalism to remove the content on the basis of a petition without verifying the veracity of the news,” the statement said. “To order the removal of news without verifying the facts is an infringement on press freedom,” the statement said.
In a press release issued by the association’s president Shiva Prasad Satyal, it is expected that the court will protect press freedom. At the same time, the association has urged all sides to respect the court, abide by the constitution and law and accept the final verdict.
