Kathmandu. Strict action will be taken against those who violate traffic rules. The government has proposed to significantly increase the fine rate with the aim of taking strict action against those who violate traffic rules.

According to the government’s new proposal, even small mistakes in traffic rule violations will have to pay many times more than before. But many people have expressed dissatisfaction with this proposal of the government. Some have expressed dissatisfaction saying that it would not be justified to tighten the rules without improving the road.

Locals have objected to the government’s proposal to increase the fine for traffic rule violations instead of managing potholes, dust, mud and dilapidated structures on most of the roads in Nepal. Stating that the people have been facing problems due to traffic jams, haphazard parking and making the roads more dangerous during the rainy season, he said the government should first focus on making the roads well-managed.

Drivers and the general public are saying that the problem will not be solved by merely increasing the fines when the condition of the road is deplorable. However, the government has said that the fines have been increased to reduce road accidents.

According to the government’s new proposal, the penalties for traffic rule violations are as follows:

  • Driving under the influence of alcohol will attract a fine of Rs 25,000

  • to Rs 50,000.

  • Lane Encroachment, One-Way, Driving Using Mobile Vehicle Fine Rs 10,000
  • Driving without a license will attract a fine of Rs 5,000-

    15,000.

  • A fine of Rs 5-15,000 will be imposed for using a vehicle other than the intended purpose
  • Driving over the limit will attract a fine of Rs 25,

  • 000 to Rs 50,000.

  • Driving at a speed below the limit will attract a fine of Rs 3,000 – Rs 5,

  • 000.

  • Fine of about Rs 3,000 for not wearing a helmet
  • Fine up to Rs 1 lakh for covering the glass and making it invisible
  • Fine from Rs 5,000 to Rs 25,000 for storing goods or animals to obstruct the road
  • Fine of Rs. 500 for walking outside zebra crossing
  • Fine up to Rs 25,000 for driving foreign vehicles in Nepal without permission
  • Overtaking or overtaking in an unsafe place will be fined Rs 2,000
  • Fine of Rs 1,000 for throwing garbage on the road
  • Taxi will be fined 3,000 if he does not go on the meter
