Kathmandu. Siddhartha Bank’s MoneyGram Rupandehi branch has demanded an investigation into the case, alleging that it used forged documents to lure service recipients into a fraudulent loan. Organising a press conference in Kathmandu on Monday, the victims demanded an investigation into the bank for issuing millions of rupees in loans in the name of blacklisted companies and using them to evade action from the Nepal Rastra Bank.
One of the victims, Dilip Oli, said that the Moneygram Rupandehi branch had approved the loan he did not ask for, and that he was used to cover up the loan issued in the name of a blacklisted company by preparing forged documents.
According to him, although the money appears in the bank statement, he does not have any voucher, receipt or official document related to it. He also alleged that the money was transferred by forging the signature of his friend.
He claimed that the signature belonging to his friend was not genuine and asked for a forensic examination. He demanded that legal action should be taken against the culprits if the signature is found to be fake.
According to the victims, the process was carried out in a planned manner within the bank to settle the loans of the blacklisted companies. He expressed apprehension that the blacklisted loan could not be settled without the decision of the board of directors and top management. He demanded investigation into the land used for the same, loan approval documents, date of blacklisting, letter released from blacklist and other records.
He also alleged that they were duped by asking for blank cheques and later filling the cheques arbitrarily and sending the money to the accounts of unknown companies. He said that he had no connection with these companies and that he had not filled the amount and details in the cheque. He claimed that the money was used to settle the blacklisted loans and for the personal benefit of some people.
The victim claimed that he had about 8,000 call records related to the incident and said that if necessary, he would provide it to the concerned authorities and the media. According to him, these records will provide more evidence about the loan process and the alleged setting.
He also demanded investigation into the role of province chief Sushil Nepal, branch chief Abhishek Kumar Thapa Magar, loan chief Rabin Poudel Chhetri (and Sandip Panthi in some places), incumbent CEO Rameshwor Prasad Basyal, head office chief Pradip Pant and chairman of the board of directors Rahul Agrawal. He claimed that such decisions would not have been possible without the knowledge and direction of the top management.
The victim claimed that he had not made any false allegations and was ready to take legal responsibility if his statement was proved wrong. He has urged the concerned regulatory bodies, investigation agencies and forensic experts to conduct an impartial investigation into all documents, signatures, bank statements, loan files, land transactions and call records.
