Kathmandu. KATHMANDU: Minister for Home Affairs Sudan Gurung has pledged to advance the home administration as a basis for sustainable peace, good governance and prosperity by maintaining peace and order in the country.
He said this while responding to the queries raised by lawmakers on the budget and policy of the Ministry of Home Affairs under the Appropriation Bill for the coming fiscal year in the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Home Minister Gurung said the home administration would not be limited to traditional security agencies but would be refined in line with the spirit of human rights and rule of law. He claimed that the Home Administration would give concrete results of security, good governance and impartiality in a way that the citizens could directly experience rather than paper assurances and speeches. The Home Minister shared that the government has accorded top priority to the reconstruction of quake-damaged private houses and government buildings in Jajarkot and Rukum (West). According to him, the Ministry of Finance has agreed to source Rs 5 billion to complete the reconstruction work in the coming fiscal year.
According to the detailed damage assessment report carried out by the technical team in the earthquake-affected areas, 41,297 houses need to be reconstructed, 11,996 houses retrofitted and 21,994 houses need to be repaired generally. He clarified that process was underway to appoint additional beneficiaries through local and district disaster management committees and the amount would be released from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority after that.
Home Minister Gurung said that his serious attention has been drawn towards the incompletion of the reconstruction works carried out since the past and directed the Chief District Officers of the districts concerned to make a break-through in the execution. He said that he has been monitoring the situation by reaching various districts and pledged to carry out improvement works continuously on the basis of the suggestions received.
