Kathmandu. Home Minister Sudhan Gurung has said that the investigation into the rape and murder of Nirmala Panta of Kanchanpur is still underway. He has also urged the victims not to raise sensitive issues repeatedly and heal the wounds of the victims’ families.

Responding to a question raised by lawmaker Bishnu Bahadur Bishwakarma in a meeting of the National Assembly on Thursday, Home Minister Gurung said that investigation into all crimes including murder, violence and rape in the country was being carried out in a phased manner.

“The government is relentlessly working to maintain peace and security. The issues raised by the hon. I also want to ask, why didn’t you do it when you were in power? Now, instead of taking responsibility alone, we should think about whether to continue to heal the wounds of the aggrieved mother or to give results through meticulous research. I don’t say much because it’s a matter of investigation, it’s being investigated. ’

Home Minister Gurung also refused to answer the supplementary questions, urging him not to raise the issue again in the upcoming House of Representatives and National Assembly.

Speaking about the government’s efforts to prevent self-immolation, he said mental health problems and growing depression among youths were the challenges.

“We are making plans by coordinating with all three tiers of government. We have also launched a 24-hour helpline 1166 for suicide prevention. ’

Addressing the youths, he urged them to fight against the difficulties in life.

“Don’t give up,” he said. Everyone has sorrow in life. You have to make sorrow your strength and move forward. Our culture has also taught us to never give up. ’
