Empowerment of Muslim women is a special priority, conflict in the name of religion is not acceptable: Acting Chairman Ali
Kathmandu Acting Chairperson of the Muslim Commission, Muhammadin Ali, said the statistics show that the Muslim community is backward in every aspect of the country in economic, social, cultural and political spheres.
He said that the Commission has been running programs giving special priority to the empowerment of Muslim women.
He said this while discussing with the office-bearers of the Muslim Commission at a meeting of the Women and Social Affairs Committee under the House of Representatives on Thursday.”Rather than talking about Muslims and Islam, it is now clear that Islam is a religion and the community that follows that religion is Muslim,” he said.
Especially in terms of the population of Nepal, we are behind in total. Moreover, according to government statistics, the Muslim community is lagging behind in every field, whether it is economic, social, cultural or political. That’s clear from the data. Unfortunately, women from the Muslim community are even further behind. Stating that the Commission has paid special attention to the advancement of Muslim women, he said most of the programmes of the Commission have been conducted keeping women’s participation in the center.
He said, “The commission has paid special attention to the advancement of Muslim women who are backward.
Out of the 12 programs, 10 programs are being done in a way that women and men are equally participating, and we have also done two separate programs for Muslim women only. The program seems to have had a good impact. He said that such programs will be continued in the current fiscal year for the leadership development and self-confidence enhancement of Muslim women.
On the occasion, Acting Chairman Ali said that the Commission’s serious attention was drawn to the recent communal incident in Sunsari and paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the incident.
He also urged the state to provide effective treatment to the injured.
“Any kind of dispute and violence in the name of religion is unacceptable,” he said.”We are Nepalis, neighbours and brothers.
We should not quarrel in the name of this religion. The Muslim Commission is trying to prove that this is wrong.”No religion teaches violence and enmity and the entire community should not be blamed for the wrong activities of a few people,” he said.
In the meeting, the committee members discussed with the Commission’s office-bearers the programmes of the Commission, social and economic status of the Muslim community, women empowerment and the recent communal incidents.
