Demand to remove PM’s statement from record, request government to immediately reopen Tatopani border point
Kathmandu Nepal Communist Party (NCP) lawmaker Yubaraj Dulal has demanded that the controversial remark made by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli be removed from the record of the parliament and urged the government to bring Tatopani border point and Araniko highway into operation immediately.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Friday, lawmaker Dulal said that they have been demanding for a long time to correct the statement made by the Prime Minister in the Parliament that Nepal has encroached on land in many places of India. Stating that there could be no compromise on the issue of nationality, he said that the statement should not be kept in the record of the parliament.
He demanded that the Prime Minister should be present in the Parliament and ask him to answer or the Speaker should rule on the matter.
“We have been demanding for a long time to correct the statement of the honorable Prime Minister in this parliament that ‘Nepal has encroached on land in many parts of India’ when he came to the parliament and spoke, to be corrected, clarified or removed from record. It is a question of nationality, it is a question of our land. We can shed blood and sacrifice our heads when necessary for the nation, but we cannot put controversial statements against the state on the national record. Therefore, the Prime Minister should be summoned to the Parliament through the Speaker or the statement should be removed from the record by ruling,” he said.
Dulal also drew the government’
s attention to bring Tatopani checkpoint and Araniko highway into operation which have been obstructed for the past one month. He said normal life in Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality has been difficult due to the closure of road due to landslide in Daklang, Echo and Liping areas and traders have suffered a huge loss due to obstruction of major trade routes with China.
He questioned the government’s working style, saying that a team of ministers, the vice-chairman of the National Planning Commission and senior government officials had inspected the site a few weeks ago.
He remarked that the government seems to have given more attention to disaster tourism than disaster management.
‘The Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality has been cut off from the road due to the closure of Tatopani border point for the past one month. A team of ministers and senior officials went to the inspection, but till date there has been no urgency to operate the road. The question has been raised whether the government has gone for disaster management or disaster tourism. Therefore, Tatopani border point and Araniko Highway should be opened immediately, roads should be repaired and normal life should be eased,” he said.
He also urged the government to mobilize police to intensify the search for Amre Tamang of Helambu-5 who went missing since June 28 in the under-construction Upper Balefi ‘A’ Hydropower Project at Jugal rural municipality in Sindhupalchowk district.
