Chair of the Labour Culture Party and member of the House of Representatives, Harka Sampang Rai, drew the government’s attention to make the official view on Lipulek transit point, resolve problems seen in the supply of LP gas, return savings to the cooperatives victims, manage the squatters, end the caste-based discrimination, create employment opportunities for youths and control online fraud.
Speaking in the House of Representatives on Friday, Sampang said that the government should listen to the voice of the opposition seriously and implement it.
Stating that many problems could not be resolved in the past as the government ignored the opposition’s suggestions, he expressed the view that such practice should not be repeated.
He demanded that the government should clarify that trade is being operated between India and China through Lipulekh border point, although the government of Nepal has not made its official position public on this issue. Raising questions about the shortage of LP gas in the market, Sampang demanded the government to explain why the supply was affected even though consumers paid for it.
He said that financial irregularities in gas supply chain or role of middlemen should be investigated and eliminated.
He urged the government to implement the development projects submitted to various ministries at the earliest and urged the government to carry out result-oriented works in the construction of infrastructures including road, irrigation and drinking water. Stating that the victims of cooperative fraud have not yet received back their savings, he demanded the government to recover the money from the property of those involved in fraud and return it to the victim immediately.
He also demanded justice for the victims of Dharan-based Bajha Savings and Credit Cooperative.
He also demanded that the government should initiate the process of distribution of land ownership certificates by addressing the problem of landless squatters and unsystematic settlement, take action against those involved in the incident of assault on its cadres in the premises of Janaki Temple in Janakpur and investigate the groups using the name ‘Hindu Samrat Sena’ and others. Stating that caste-based discrimination and untouchability are still prevalent, Sampang urged the government to take effective steps to end it.
Stating that the growing despair and self-immolation among the youths had indicated that the government failed to create employment and productive opportunities, he stressed the need for industrialization and expansion of labour-based employment.
He also drew the government’s attention towards the services and facilities of Indian ex-servicemen, accidents due to high-tension power lines, inundation problem in Sunsari, activities of land mafia in Ramdhuni-64 bigha area, Sardu watershed dispute, delay in implementation of court verdict and fraud being carried out in the name of online networking business. Stating that Nepali embassies abroad should effectively address the problems of non-resident Nepalis, he urged all sides to work honestly for nation building. Proposing that the lawmakers should also contribute directly during the time of disaster, Sampang suggested that 275 lawmakers should contribute Rs 50,000 each from their own convenience and set up a relief fund of about Rs 13.7 million.
He said the fund could be used for relief and rescue of the disaster-affected people.
