. KATHMANDU: The preparations for the 17th Europe Regional Conference and Asia Conference of the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) have reached the final stage.
Ganesh Parajuli, deputy leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) parliamentary party for Europe, will be the chief guest.
Regarding the preparations for the conference to be held on Monday and Tuesday, Association President Dr Hemraj Sharma said that the inclusion of Deputy Leader Parajuli as the chief guest in the present context of RSP leader and Prime Minister Balen Shah is a positive message. He expressed the belief that NRNA’s various regional conferences in Europe and Asia would contribute significantly to the NRNA’s investment and citizenship issues.
He also informed that after the conclusion of these conferences, the office-bearers of the association will gather in Kathmandu and announce new programs.
According to a press release issued by Europe Coordinator Robert Limbu, the conference will be attended by NRNA International Coordination Council (ICC) and National Coordination Council (NCC) office-bearers, entrepreneurs, professionals, experts, women and youth leaders, second-generation Non-Resident Nepalis and community representatives. So far, more than
200 participants from 35 countries have been confirmed and the total participation is expected to reach around 250.
Nepal’s Charge d’ Affaires to the UK Bipin Duwadi, Krishna Kumar Subedi, Under Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Krishna Kumar Subedi, Councillor of Dublin City Council, Supriya Singha, and experts from different sectors will participate in the conference. The two-day conference will feature 10 key thematic sessions.
This year’s conference has given priority to Non-Resident Nepali citizenship and rights, investment in Nepal, participation of women, youth and second generation.
The women-centric sessions will discuss entrepreneurship, economic empowerment, safe migration, health, and legal access, while the sessions on youth and second generation will focus on leadership development, information technology, entrepreneurship, identity, language and culture, and long-term relationship with Nepal. The summit aims to create a common roadmap for 2030 and beyond, on the role of Nepalese in the global diaspora and their partnership in Nepal’s development.
According to the organizers, the conference will be an important opportunity to directly present the rights and concerns of Non-Resident Nepalis to the Government and political leadership, to strengthen cooperation among the Nepali community in Europe and to expand economic, social and knowledge-based partnership between Nepal and Diaspora.
Similarly, the Asia Regional Conference of the Association is going to be held in Guangzhou of China this year.
Nepali Congress parliamentary party leader Bhishma Raj Adambe is scheduled to attend the conference on August 15 and 16 as the chief guest.
According to Deepak Kandel, NRNA Asia Regional Coordinator, there will be significant participation of representatives of major political parties in Nepal to make the conference more effective and result-oriented. According to him, extensive discussions will be held on Nepal’s development, tourism promotion, attraction of foreign investment and role of Non-Resident Nepalis in the conference. Federal parliamentarians Manisha Jha, Jagadish Kharel, Ain Bahadur Mahar, Yubaraj Dulal, Kshitij Thebe, Khusbu Oli, Eren Rai and Khagendra Sunar and former lawmaker Surya Pathak are taking part in the conference.
Other participants include Arun Kumar Subedi and Rajendra Baniya.
Such regional conferences are aimed at bringing together Nepalis from all over the world, exchange experiences and contribute directly to Nepal’s economic development. The summit is expected to open new doors for collaboration between Nepali entrepreneurs, experts and professionals, especially in the Asia region. In the program, various sessions will discuss the potential of the tourism sector, investment environment in Nepal, the need for policy reforms and the rights and role of Non-Resident Nepalis.
Some journalists from Nepal are preparing to leave for Nepal for the regional conference.
Although some journalists close to the NRNA leaders are trying to participate in the conference, the journalists who have been covering the issues of non-resident Nepalis for decades have not been in the priority of the association.
Currently, the association’s network has expanded to 92 countries and has more than 100,000 members.
